Here’s a list of free optical disc authoring software or more commonly known as cd/dvd burning software. These programs are free to download and are made for computers running Windows.

Active@ ISO Burner is a freeware application that will allow you to burn an ISO image file to CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-RW, DVD-RW, DL DVD+RW, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

Active@ Data CD/DVD Burner is software used to burn files and folders onto CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Automation and Unicode (non-English names) are fully supported.

AmoK DVD Shrinker
AmoK DVD Shrinker shrinks DVDs up to one fifth of the original size without any noticeable quality reduction. Due to the smaller file size the copy can be burned on a “normal” 2.5 or 4.7 DVD-R. The DVD’s menus, subtitles, audio tracks etc all stay preserved. Though, if you want only the original film can be be copied/ripped.

Ashampoo Burning Studio Free
Ashampoo Burning Studio is an optical disc authoring program for Microsoft Windows, developed by Ashampoo. It is one of the most used alternatives to Nero Burning ROM on Windows, but still not as popular as the latter. Its main advantages are that it is simple, lightweight, and very easy to use. However, that is also one of its weaknesses: it does not contain many extras that power-users might find useful. Ashampoo Burning Studio is capable of creating compilations of CDs, Optical Disc Images, DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs. It also allows the creation of DVD movies from video files.

Pauses between tracks can also be set as silence, pregap, or postgap of varying lengths.

Deepburner Free
DeepBurner is a CD/DVD authoring program made by Astonsoft which supports CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM. Additionally it can create and burn ISO images. It is available in a free or pro version – the pro version includes features to burn specific types of discs, such as DVD movies, photo albums, as well as backup and disc duplication utilities. The free version is also available as a portable version which runs off a USB flash drive.

DVD Decrypter
DVD Decrypter is a software application that can create backup disc images of the DVD-Video structure of DVDs. It can be used to image any DVD, but controversially it is especially useful for decrypting copy-protected movies. The program can also burn images to disc. ImgBurn is a freeware program that allows the recording of many types of CD/DVD images to recordable media (.cue files are supported as of version 2.4.0.0)[1]. ISO Recorder
ISO Recorder is a tool (power toy) for Windows XP, 2003 and now Windows Vista, that allows (depending on the Windows version) to burn CD and DVD images (DVD support is only available on Windows Vista), copy disks, make images of the existing data CDs and DVDs and create ISO images from a content of a disk folder.

    I have used both the DVD Decrypter and DVD shrink. Both work well. If you want to copy DVDs to your hard drive, there is also the option of Handbrake which works well.

    I aslo like nero burning, on my desktop pc, but on my notebook I am using Ashampoo disc burner, which is probably the best free disc burning software.

    i never knew there are some freewares for cdburning, thanks for this one but i’m satisfied with my NERO.
