Verizon To Offer $600 Samsung Galaxy Tab Nov 11

Samsung Galaxy Tab

Last week, Verizon announced that they will be selling an iPad/MiFi Hotspot combo at end of this month. For those who are interested and planning to get one, hold that thought for a moment. Verizon together with Samsung announced today that Verizon Wireless will be offering the Samsung Galaxy Tab starting November 11th for $599.99.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ, and DALLAS, TX – Verizon Wireless and Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) today announced the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Tabâ„¢ will be available Nov. 11 for $599.99. Running on Androidâ„¢ 2.2, the Samsung Galaxy Tab features a brilliant 7-inch touch screen; robust HTML Web browsing experience with full support for Adobe® Flash® 10.1 for video and mobile gaming; and a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird Application processor.

Samsung has stated that it will make the device available on all four major US carriers but with this announcement, Verizon becomes the first carrier to sell the device giving them a headstart over other carriers.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab will be powered by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor and will run on Android 2.2 Froyo OS. Other features include a 7-inch touchscreen, 3G + WiFi connectivity, 3-megapixel AF camera with LED flash and a microSD slot.

Verizon Wireless will be adding custom apps to the Samsung Galaxy Tab like the V CAST Music, V CAST Song ID, VZ Navigator, Slacker Radio, Kindle for Android, BlockBuster on Demand and an exclusive game called “Let’s Golf” . The Galaxy Tab will be available from Verizon Wireless for $599.99 without any contracts and customers can avail of special 3G plans starting at $20/month for 1GB of data.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a tad smaller and a bit more expensive than the Apple iPad although the small size makes it more portable/mobile. The Galaxy Tab also has a camera for video chats and the ability to run Flash on websites. It’s hard to say which one is better so I think it all depends on the user’s needs/preferences. So before you go and get one of these devices, take time to determine what you’re gonna need/use it for.

Now that you have two options to choose from, which one are you gonna get? The Apple iPad or the Samsung Galaxy Tab? Please share your thoughts.
