Heads up to all the regular readers and visitors of JaypeeOnline. There will be an expected downtime tomorrow, April 30, 2015 at 10:00 PM US Eastern time. My hosting provider – Servint, sent me an email yesterday informing me about the expected downtime which will be due to the migrating of customers to newly provisioned host servers.

On Thursday, April 30th, 2015 at 10:00 PM EDT, we will begin migrating customers on this node to a newly provisioned host server. The purpose of this migration is to decommission older hardware and to upgrade customers to a more robust and stable version of our virtualization platform. While migrations will begin at the aforementioned time, individual customer migrations will be staggered to prevent unnecessary slowdown, and may not be initiated immediately. There will be some downtime while your VPS is migrating, specifically at the end of the migration, which ensures all settings and data are identical on the new machine. We hope that the downtime will be minimal, but it is based on many variables including customer disk and inode usage. The MST will be actively monitoring this host machine for the duration of the migration.

The notice didn’t mention how long the downtime would last but hopefully, it won’t take more than a couple of hours. I also hope that there won’t be any problems like what happened last time when the routine maintenance procedure got messed up.

The purpose of this procedure is to ensure a better quality of service for Servint customers like me which also means a better user experience for all of you who come and visit JaypeeOnline. Nevertheless, I’d like to apologize in advance for any inconvenience that this downtime brings to all of your regular readers and visitors.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Have a great day!
