The Nexus 7 is an awesome device. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made for electronic devices. Me and my wife each have one and we both love it and use it a lot. The only thing I don’t like about it is the location of the speakers. I wish it had the same front-facing speakers as it’s big brother the Nexus 10 or the HTC One. Having it in the back of the device makes sounds sometimes difficult to hear or understand. To solve this problem, I decided to get a portable speaker that I can plugin to the Nexus 7 and make the volume louder.

So I went to Amazon and looked around for a nice and affordable portable speaker. After comparing different products, I finally decided to get the Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker with Rechargeable Battery and Enhanced Bass Resonator for $18.99. I chose this particular product because based on the product images and reviews, it was the right size and it had the features I was looking for.

  • Modular design with maximum sound output: Guaranteed to take your music experience to the next level, simply connect multiple units together to multiply the sound-boom.
  • Rechargeable Battery-Powered: Take your ZX100 anywhere and simply plug and play to share your favourite music any place any time with its long lasting battery life up to 6 hours.
  • Portability: Compact design provides maximum portability & allows for convenient storage

The Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker has a cool and modern look as well as a unique design. It comes in different colors – black & white, black & red, black & blue, grey & lime green, white & lime green. The one I got was the black and red version. Because it uses a 3.5mm jack and connector, it’s compatible with practically any device – Android smartphones, Blackberry devices, iPhones, iPods, iPads, MP3 players, CD players, Tablets, Laptops and any device that has a 3.5mm audio socket. The package comes with a USB charging cable, a carrying pouch bag and a user manual.

To use the Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker, just Press and Hold on the red strip below the Power icon for 5 seconds. When the blue LED lights up, it’s ready to use. Just connect the 3.5mm connector (located at the bottom of the speaker) to your device.

Battery life is about 6 hours which is pretty decent considering its size. Personally, I haven’t tried using it for that long but the good thing about this product is that you can use it even when it’s charging. The sound quality was much better than what I expected and should be good enough for most users. The unit is also very stable, it doesn’t wobble or move a lot even during use.

Another cool feature of the Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker is the ability to “daisy chain” or connect to other units and use them all together to produce a much larger sound.

The only cons I could think of are – the 3.5mm connector is a bit too short (would’ve been better if it were longer) and there’s no way to see the volume level.

Overall, the Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker is a good-looking, solid and affordable portable speaker. It’s easy to use and the sound quality is pretty decent for a portable speaker. We’ve had this product for more than 6 months now and so far we haven’t had any issues with it and have been working great since day 1.

You can get the Kinivo ZX100 Mini Portable Speaker with Rechargeable Battery and Enhanced Bass Resonator from for only $18.99. If you have Amazon Prime, you can get it within 2 days.
