WordCamp Philippines

WordCamp Philippines

If you’re a Pinoy blogger or a WordPress user/fan then most likely you’ve heard or read of this already. But in case you haven’t, I have good news for you. There will be a WordCamp held in the Philippines this coming September 6, 2008. If you don’t know what I’m talking about here’s a little info.

What is WordCamp?

WordCamp is a conference type of event that focuses squarely on everything WordPress. Everyone from casual end users all the way up to core developers show up to these events. These events are usually highlighted by speeches or keynotes by various people. WordCamp is a spin off from the popular BarCamp which was a spin off of FooCamp. - Weblog Tools Collection

WordCamp Philippines will be the first ever WordCamp organized and held in Asia. WordCamp Philippines is being organized by a group of Filipino bloggers based in Mindanao who were also responsible for organizing the successful 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit held last year.

What are the objectives of WordCamp Philippines?

…to encourage more developers to use and deploy WordPress, not only as a blogging engine but also as a full-featured content management system for Web sites. Another is to increase the number of WordPress users and developers in the country. By developers, we mean programmers of WordPress plugins and designers of themes & templates.

First update: After several days of pondering, waiting and finding time to do the upgrade, I’ve finally done it. I’ve upgraded Wordpress to version 2.0.1 which was released 17 days ago.

This current version has a total of 114 bug fixes. Here are some of the things that were fixed and/or improved from the previous version:

* You can now specify an upload directory, and whether to use date-based storage or not.
* Caching has been fixed under certain PHP enviroments.
* Permalinks have been fixed for weird enviroments as well.
* XML-RPC uploading works.
* Compatibility with older versions of PHP.
* Several WYSIWYG fixes and cleanups.
* Imports now use much less memory.
* Now works with MySQL 5.0 in strict mode.

Second update: If you’ve noticed earlier, my Archive page used to be blank and didn’t have the archives list in it. While I was blog hopping I came across one blog and saw the Live Archive thing on it. I didn’t know that it’s already incorporated in the new release of the K2 theme. You just had to upload and activate the plugin. Anyways, I downloaded the Extended Live Archive plugin from Sons of Skadi. At first I had no idea on how to activate it. Eventually, I was able to figure it out and have it up and running. I’m glad that slowly but surely, I am able to customize and add stuff to my blog and have it just the way I like it.

Extra: Akismet is doing a very good job, an excellent job with spam. If you have a blog and you could get an API key, I strongly suggest and recommend that you use it too. I’m glad I did.

    Hi Jaypee!
Hey, thanks for visiting my blog.
It’s always nice to meet someone new in blogworld!
I haven’t upgraded to 2.0 yet. So props to you for doing it. I figured since I’m moving domains soon, I might just leave it alone… and start working on my new domain with 2.0.

I upgraded my other domains to 2.0 though.
    I’m loving it.

    :-)

Hi Anna! you’re welcome and thanks for dropping by too. I often see your comments in Christian and Kristin’s blogs but i seldom visit your blog.

I upgraded to 2.0 because I had to reinstall everything and start from scratch after my blog went down. Btw, I’ve added you to my links.
