The last time I received earphones for product review was four years ago when I unboxed and reviewed the Musicanywhere Adrenaline Series AD0503 Bluetooth earphones.
I rarely use earphones or headphones when listening to music or watching videos but it’s good to try out new products every now and then. Recently, the folks from dodocool reached out to me and asked if I wanted to review their Bluetooth earphones. Of course, I said yes and they sent me the DA109 Magnetic Wireless Stereo Sports Headphone. You can check out the technical specifications below.

PACKAGING & COLOR OPTIONS
Most products ship in a box but for some reason, the package that dodocool sent to me didn’t have a box. Nevertheless, the case that it came with has a nice carbon fiber pattern as well as texture. The material is also a bit hard so it protects the earphones and other accessories inside the case from getting damaged or squashed.
The dodocool DA109 earphones come in two color options – black and red. The one I received is the red version which has red cables, while the piece that contains the volume controls and built-in mic, as well as the earpieces, is black.
The package contains the following: DA109 earphones, 2 extra sets of earplugs (Small & Large), 2 extra sets of ear hooks (Small & Large), 1 micro USB cable, and an instruction manual.
DESIGN & BUILD QUALITY
The dodocool DA109 wireless stereo sports in-ear headphones feature an ergonomic and lightweight design made to fit comfortably into the ear. That, along with the soft material of the earplugs provide a comfortable wearing experience.
Aside from that, the earphones also have a built-in magnetic design that enables the user to attach the two earpieces together, wearing them like a necklace. You won’t have to worry about dropping or losing it while you’re on a workout, out biking, hiking, running, or other outdoor activities.
It also comes with a built-in microphone for hands-free calling meaning, you can answer and make phone calls while you’re using the DA109.
Here’s a special treat for iOS users. The DA109 has a battery indicator for iOS devices that helps you keep track of the battery level so you’ll know when the earphones need charging. I wish they also had this feature for Android users like myself.
SETUP & CONNECTIVITY
Setting up the DA109 Bluetooth earphones is very easy and simple. If you’re pairing or setting it up for the first time, here’s what you need to do: Turn ON the Bluetooth on your mobile device or any device you want to pair with. Once you’ve done that, get the DA109 and press the Mic button (which also works as the power button) until the LED indicator starts alternately blinking blue and red. Look for the name dodocool-DA109 and tap on it to start pairing.
If you need to turn it off, just press the Mic button for about 3 seconds. The LED indicator will blink red a few times before shutting down.
The DA109 Bluetooth earphones use Bluetooth 4.1 which is not the latest technology but has some great features like LE or Low Energy that allows devices to remain connected for long periods of time without draining the battery.
From my experience using these pairs of earphones, I never had an issue connecting or pairing with my mobile devices. Also didn’t encounter any signal loss or dropped connectivity while using the DA109. Although I’ve never tried or tested it, the dodocool website boasts that the DA109 can work and maintain a connection for up to a distance of 33 feet.
SOUND QUALITY
The dodocool website indicates that the DA109 uses Qualcomm’s CVC 6.0 noise cancellation technology. What it does is that it reduces background noise and enables the user to enjoy listening to music, watching movies, or making phone calls.
Again, as I’ve mentioned in my previous earphone/headphone reviews, I am not an audiophile. With that said, I’m only going to share with you my opinions as an average or regular user. I did a few tests and compared it with the Apple Earpods, the Sony MDR-ZX100, and the Musicanywhere Adrenaline Series AD0503. I wasn’t surprised with the results against the first two but when it came to the AD0503, the results were almost identical. The only difference was that the DA109 was a bit better at producing deeper bass sounds.
BATTERY LIFE
As indicated in the dodocool website/manual, the DA109 is powered by a 110 mAh lithium polymer battery that’s supposed to last 360 hours on standby time and 8 hours of simultaneous playtime on a full charge. Personally, I haven’t tried using it that long so I can’t really say. I will test it out sometime and update this post. For now, I’ll have to take their word for it.
Charging the DA109 Bluetooth earphones takes about an hour and a half.
CONCLUSION
There are only a couple of things that I didn’t like about it and those are 1) MicroUSB port cover – gets in the way and makes it hard to plug in a MicroUSB cable. 2) Dust magnet – the rubber parts (earplugs & ear hooks) attract dust so easily. But overall, the DA109 is a solid choice considering its price. They’re comfortable and offer great sound quality without breaking the bank.
I’m pretty satisfied with its performance and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a budget-friendly Bluetooth or wireless earphones.
