49 Most Downloaded WordPress Themes

Hongkiat has come up with the list of the 49 most downloaded WordPress themes of all time from Themes.WordPress.net. It’s a bit surprising to see that most of the themes who made it to the list doesn’t look that nice or appealing and yet many users still download them.

I was expecting BinaryBonsai‘s K2 to be one of the themes in that list but it wasn’t. However, the list does include two modified versions of K2 – 3k2redux klein and 3k2redux klee.

Among the WordPress themes listed, I counted 10 themes that I’ve downloaded and tried on my sandbox. And from those 10 themes, the only one I used for JaypeeOnline was the Freshy theme. I’m sure most of you who have been visiting my blog for quite a while remember that. What I like most about that theme is the option to easily change color schemes within the WordPress admin panel, which you don’t see in most WordPress themes.

Check out Hongkiat’s list of the 49 Most Downloaded WordPress Themes.

Which of the themes listed on Hongkiat’s 49 Most Downloaded WorPress Themes list are you currently using or have previously used on your blog/website? Did you find any new cool themes from the list? Are there any WordPress themes that you think deserve to be on the list? Please share your thoughts by leaving a comment below.

@Jam – I guess that's true for most themes but there are some themes that are quite new that made it to the list. :)

I think these were the ones uploaded early that's why they got the highest number of downloads.

@K – I've also used K2 with a modified style sheet for my blog a long time ago. I'm also thinking of using a 3 column theme but I still can't find one that works for me. That's what's keeping me from having my blog over at WP.com, your hands are tied. :D

Yeah, Hongkiat's blog has a very nice theme. :)

@L.A. – Yup, I got the e-Ticket. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to the awards night even if I wanted to. I've also sent an email regarding someone who will represent me. Thanks! :)

@Dre – Actually, a lot of good clean layout themes didn't make it to the list. I guess these themes weren't that popular or weren't listed in Themes.Wordpress.Net. The list is about number of downloads and not the best layout anyways. Hehe :D

I like K2. It's clean, I used a few times but if you have two many things happening in one sidebar, it gets boring. I am now using 2813 by elifoner for the white minimalist three column layout. What can you get with free wordpress.com blog? It's very limited.

I din't check the 49 Top so I don't know its even included there – I actually liked the theme of the site.

Yes, I remember that Freshy Look. I guess most people go for 'clean layouts' that's why some themes that aren't so… well, u know… were mostly downloaded ;)
