Songbird Mp3 Player will be released within this week. It is an open-source media player project that involves people who worked with Winamp 5 and Y! Music Engine. Songbird is Firefox based and is designed to be a complete desktop media player or what you call a “jukebox”. The version that will be released is not a Beta version as what some people believe, rather it would be a version 0.1.

There are some issues with the UI (user interface) though, because it clearly has a resemblance with iTunes and I don’t think Stevey would be happy about this. I’m not sure if there could be legal issues involved with this, but if that happens then the team has to go back in the drawing board and create something new.

    yup, that's what most people first notice and say about it. but regarding performance, it does more than iTunes. it will be using extensions just like Mozilla Firefox.
