The on-going Coronavirus pandemic may have reached its peak in many areas but the virus is continuing to spread across the world with over three million confirmed cases in about 185 countries and over 200,000 confirmed deaths.

While this global outbreak isn’t over, we should expect to stay home bit longer than we wanted. If you look at your social media feed, you’ll notice that in the past few weeks it has been filled with photos, stories and videos of people baking, cooking, cleaning, playing video games, etc. People are finding ways to keep themselves busy and avoid boredom.

Since this is a technology blog, we are going to share something related to gaming. We are going to share the different types of online games that you can play while on self-isolation.

Board Games

I know everyone is familiar with this type of game because I’m pretty sure you grew up playing a board game or two. For instance, here are some populat titles: Battleship, Game of Life, Monopoly, Scrabble, Settlers of Catan, etc.

The most popular MMO games right now are World of Warcraft, RuneScape, EVE Online, League of Legends, DOTA (Defense of the Ancients), Rift and Skyforge just to mention a few. Among the game types or genres listed here, the one that I personally got hooked on are FPS. To be specific, it was Counter-Strike CS 2.0. It was introduced to me by a friend and got hooked instantly.

Back in the ’70s and ’80s, before the major video game boom in the ’90s arcade games were very popular. In those days, gaming consoles weren’t really popular like it is today.

For those of you who were born in that era, you know what I’m talking about. For the sake of the younger generation, here are some of the most popular arcade games: Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Street Fighter, Galaga, Operation Wolf, Sega Rally, Time Crisis II, Mortal Kombat, Metal Slug, etc.

Another type of game that’s gaining a lot of popularity especially among adults are online casino games. Millions of people from all over the world play different types of casino-related online games each day.

Simulation

As the name implies, this type of games uses simulation. It is generally designed to provide the player a simulated environment that closely copies or simulates real world activities, objects, scenario, etc.

Here are some of the most well-known simulation games released: The Sims, Spore, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Zoo Tycoon, Tropico and Football Manager to name a few.
