Nova Launcher, one of the most popular and personally my custom home launcher of choice just released Nova Launcher 4.0 that brings the much-awaited Material Design and a whole lot of new and upgraded features.

Received a notification for app updates on my LG G3 last night and one of the updates was for Nova Launcher. I checked the changelog on the Google Play Store and was surprised to see that the latest update features a new design and adds some new features like bundled wallpapers.

Nova Launcher 4.0 includes the following new features and upgrades:

  • Full Material Design
  • All settings screens/dialogs
  • More animations
  • Edit Shortcut dialog tinted based on colors of the icon
  • New icons
  • Bundled wallpapers
  • Rebased on top of Launcher3
  • Individual icon layout settings (size, font, etc) in Desktop, Drawer, etc
  • Max icon size boosted to 150%
  • Widget Search
  • Pull down in the drawer for search

If you’re using a previous version of Nova Launcher, one thing to take note of is that the Widget Drawer has moved. To access it, just long-press on an empty space and tap Widgets.

I’ve been using Nova Launcher for several years now and it’s always been my default custom home launcher. I’ve tried other home launchers but I always find myself going back to Nova Launcher. I’ve also purchased Nova Launcher Prime to unlock all the premium features and the price of $5 is all worth it. Below are the unlockable premium features:

  • Gestures – Swipe, pinch, double tap and more on the home screen to open favorite apps
  • Unread Counts – Never miss a message. Unread count badges for Hangouts, SMS, Gmail and more using the TeslaUnread plugin
  • Custom Drawer Groups – Create new tabs or folders in the app drawer
  • Hide Apps – Keep a clean app drawer by hiding never used apps
  • Icon Swipes – Set custom actions for swiping on app shortcuts or folders
  • More scroll effects – Such as Wipe, Accordion, and Throw

Nova Launcher 4.0 can be downloaded for FREE from the Google Play Store but you’ll need to purchase Nova Launcher Prime to unlock all the features.

Anyone else using Nova Launcher as the custom home launcher for your Android smartphone or device? What new features do you like best from the latest update?
