Logitech LX8 Cordless Laser Mouse

Logitech LX8 Cordless Laser Mouse

A few weeks back, I tweeted about how my Logitech V450 cordless mice was acting up and had a mind of their own. By this time it was about 2 years since I bought it and usually, computer mice last longer than that. But then, my Logitech V450 have been played with and dropped several times by my 2-year-old son. So I’m sure it has absorbed some damage all this time.

The issues started out with minor glitches and sometimes the cursor would jump or skip and fail to respond for a second and then come back again. Then after a few days, it started to get worse than it would suddenly stop working and wouldn’t respond for a few minutes. With that, I decided to go and look for a replacement. As my usual practice, I did some research and read some reviews and finally decided to get the Logitech LX8 Cordless Laser Mouse. I purchased it from Amazon.com for $35 and because I have an Amazon Prime account, I got free shipping and received it 3 days later.

Logitech LX8 Cordless Laser Mouse Features:

  • Laser precision
  • Cordless receiver
  • Comfortable, ambidextrous design
  • Side-to-side scrolling plus zoom
  • Forward/backward buttons
  • 8-month battery life

The Logitech LX8 comes with a mini receiver, a USB extension stand, 2 AA batteries, software, and an installation guide. The mini receiver is bigger compared to that of the V450 so I don’t consider it as a “mini” receiver. I like that it has a USB extension stand which can be pretty useful in some situations. I didn’t use the 2 AA batteries that came with it because I already have the rechargeable batteries that I use for my gadgets/devices. I also didn’t need the installation guide and software because Windows had the required drivers, but it did take a couple of minutes to install. On my Ubuntu partition, it was plug-n-play because it was immediately recognized by the system.

So far I’m loving the Logitech LX8. It has just the right size for my hand. The V450 was a bit small for me and in prolonged use, my hand tends to strain and tire easily. But with the LX8, I don’t experience any of that even with prolonged use. With regards to its responsiveness and precision, it’s very responsive and accurate. Based on my observation, the LX8 works better than the V450. I’ve only had this for a few weeks so I can’t really tell if it lives up to its 8-month battery life claim.

The only thing that bothers me and causes some issues is the Forward/Backward buttons. They are awkwardly located on both sides of the mouse and can easily get in the way, causing accidental clicks. After a few days of usage, I was able to learn how to handle the mouse without accidentally touching or clicking those buttons. The battery enclosure is quite narrow and it makes it quite difficult to remove and replace the batteries. Something I didn’t have any problems with on the V450. Another thing that some users might have problems with is the LX8’s inability to hide the mini receiver within the mice, which the V450 can do. Other than that, I don’t have any problems with the LX8. I’m very happy with it and I don’t regret buying it.

How about you guys? Have you tried the Logitech LX8 Cordless Laser Mouse? What brand/model of computer mice are you currently using? Do you have any brand preferences?

  1. I’ve had this wireless mouse for almost a year now….not all that long I guess. It’s a great mouse and I love it. It’s a great fit in my hand and the 4th and 5th buttons are in the perfect spot for me (I don’t have to reach for them). I use it for gaming (World Of Warcraft)and am on all the time. Battery life is excellent I never turn it off like I should. My only problem is that the reciever has finally crapped out. It’s on my laptop and I’m always bumping the reciever into stuff on accident (not the “micro” it should be)as I get up off the couch or put it on the coffee table. It started a while ago that it got sensative to which port it was in…then I had to jiggle it a little to make it work…now it’s officially dead. Doesn’t work in any port even with jiggles. I need a new reciever please help me. I know it’s not dead batteries cause the little red light isn’t blinking at me. Which it recently did before I put new ones in. :)

  2. Mini Wireless Mousesays:

I just bought this mouse and its awesome! I originally bought some crappy Gear Head mouse then returned it the next day and got this. Good move.

  3. i can’t remember well the brand of the mice.. it was lent to me by an office mate. well, you might be right, perhaps it was due to some calibration or driver issue.

  4. @dimaks – I never had those types of issues with my computer mice. It could be the mice calibration or the pointer drivers on your computer that needs to be checked. One reason why I always go for Logitech is because of their quality. What brand of computer are you having problems with? :D

  5. the unit and technology comfort is awesome but i always have this issue on connectivity fluctuation. i mean, when i happened to use a wireless mouse, i felt as if the mouse pointer is jumping criss-cross my monitor. or maybe it’s due to the quality side :)

  6. @Jhay – I also had the same issue with my previous mice, the Logitech V450. The reason why I chose the Logitech LX8 is because of its size. Its larger than the usual cordless mice and is a very good fit for my hand.

If you want to buy this mice, let me know and I can get it for you.

  7. The one factor that keeps me away from cordless mice is their small size which is not suited for the likes of me who have huge hands.

Hopefully this model is available locally because it’s difficult to buy from Amazon where you’re in the Philippines.
