If you’re a WordPress advocate, developer, fan or user in the Philippines then you should already know or even have a ticket for the upcoming WordCamp Manila 2017.
For those who aren’t familiar with this event, what started out as WordCamp Philippines back in 2008 (the first WordCamp organized and held in Asia), the event is now called WordCamp Manila and it also has a different organizing team. The organizers for this event are Carl Alberto, Andrew Garcia, Dreb Bitanghol, Sarah Cada, and Kit Valmadrid.
This year’s event will be held on November 11, 2017 at the iACADEMY Plaza, located at 324 Sen. Gil Puyat Ave., Brgy. Bel-air, Makati City 1209 starting at 8:30 AM til 5:00 PM.

Probably the best or the coolest thing about WordCamp Manila 2017 is the introduction of their official mascot called Jeepney Wapuu.
Jeepneys (Filipino: Dyipni), or simply jeeps (Filipino: dyip), are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines (particularly in Manila). It’s also become a ubiquitous symbol for Filipino art and culture.
The Jeepney’s ties to Philippine history dates back to the end of World War II when hundreds of surplus Jeeps were converted and re-purposed by enterprising Filipinos into a mode for mass transportation. A welcome innovation that helped spur the cities recovering from war.
At this year’s WordCamp Manila, we celebrate that same sense of community and ingenuity with WCMNL’s own “Jeepney Wapuu”.
I wonder if the t-shirts for WordCamp Manila 2017 will feature the Jeepney Wapuu? If so, it would be awesome! I wish I could be there and get one for myself.
I love attending WordCamps and I try to attend one whenever possible. I’ve been to two WordCamps – WordCamp Las Vegas back in 2009 where I met Matt Mullenweg and last year’s WordCamp Toronto. I wanted to attend this year’s WordCamp Toronto but due to a conflict in schedule, I wasn’t able to go.
One of the things on my bucket list is to attend a WordCamp Philippines or WordCamp Manila event. Hopefully, I can do it next year. I wish the organizers all the best and a successful event!
