SOME INTERESTING STATS:

  • 3 in 10 Filipinos own a smartphone
  • 40 million active social media users
  • Majority of smartphone users use Android

3 in 10 Filipinos own a smartphone – These devices are used for communication (calls, texts, chats, etc.), browsing the Internet (especially for those who can’t afford to own a desktop or laptop computer), etc. so nowadays, smartphones are becoming a necessity instead of a luxury. I believe this number will soon change (increase) especially with the introduction of cheaper smartphones. I know for a fact that some Filipinos even own and carry with them multiple smartphones.

40 million active social media users – The current population of the Philippines is 102,499,757 as of Wednesday, August 31, 2016, based on the latest United Nations estimates according to the Worldometers website. This means that almost half of the population are active social media users.

Majority of smartphone users use Android – This is not surprising because Android devices are generally cheaper compared to iOS devices. There are a lot of good smartphones that are available for less than P5,000 (roughly $100 US).
