WP Theme Review: dfMarine

Wordpress Themes

Here’s another cool WordPress theme from DezinerFolio, the same guys who gave us the dfTheme and the dfTheme 2.0 themes. This new theme is called dfMarine and got that name simply because it uses the color blue.

dfMarine is not widget-ready and if you want to customize or add something to the sidebar, you’ll have to edit the theme’s sidebar.php file.

Basic features:

  • 2 columns
  • Collapsible sidebar
  • Custom RSS, Technorati, Digg & Post date buttons
  • Tested on IE 7, Firefox, Flock and Opera
  • CSS compliant

My Take:
Just like it’s predecessors, dfMarine is a pretty and well designed theme. I like the color scheme not only because it’s blue but because it works and the colors compliment each other. I love the custom buttons for the RSS feed, Technorati and Digg and also the custom post date graphic. Another cool feature that I like in this theme is the collapsible sidebar that uses the accordian javascript. This feature makes the theme look cool and at the same time saves space. IMO, the dfMarine by far is the best WordPress theme that DezinerFolio has created. Not that the previous ones were not good but this theme definitely has a better overall appeal and functionality.

There are a couple of things that might turn off some WordPress users from using this theme. First, it’s not widget-ready. Users who rely or use a lot of widgets won’t be able to use it or will have to wait before someone makes it widgetized. Second, customizing the sidebar requires editing the sidebar.php file and this is a biggie for users with limited knowledge or skills in HTML or CSS.

Overall, this is still a great theme and the guys at DezinerFolio did a great job with it. I give the dfMarine theme a 4.0 out of 5.

YOur place here is neat but honestly, can’t understand all. am not even a bit into techy stuff. That’s a nice new theme up there but can’t try it until it goes into widgets. :)

    Take care and God bless.

I echoe on trench, it has to be a widget ready. I actually like the Grid Focus Theme but it does not include widget sidebars. I think it’s easier that way.

  6. Jaypee Says:

@K - That makes it two votes for a widgetized version of dfMarine. Hehe

The Grid Focus theme is a cool magazine style theme. Yeah, a widget-ready theme is more user-friendly and easier to use. :)
