Having fewer plugins is better but having lots of plugins isn’t bad at all. What the author was emphasizing was deactivating and deleting unused plugins.

Regarding ads, if the ad is using external scripts like javascript used in Google Adsense it will add to your blog’s loading time.

I can’t follow much on the ’speeding up wordpress’ tips. Although I admit, using too much of plugins can cause a “stagnant” effect on a blog, but surely, they are addicting to use.

Do you think our ads makes our blog run slower as well?
