Facebook vs Google+ [Infographic]

By now most of you are either on or have heard about the newest social network – Google+. I got into Google+ a couple days after it was launched thanks to an unsolicited invite sent by my friend Holly. So far, I’m loving it and have been spending more time on Google+ than on Facebook the past few days. Also, I’ve seen many of my Facebook friends joining Googe+, some of whom received invites from me.

I know not everyone on Facebook will be jumping ship, but in case you some of your family members and friends want to know the differece between the two social networks you point can them to this infographic created by the folks of TechnoBombs. This infographic compares the different features of Facebook and Google+ like Facebook’s friend list vs Google+ Circles, Facebook video calling vs Google+ Hangouts, Facebook Places vs Google+ location, etc.

On the bottom part of the infographic, it lists some of the things that are in Facebook but are missing in Google+. Having business profiles and a Google+ version of Facebook Questions are fine but I hope that Google doesn’t add games. Games and other social apps are one of the main sources of spam and annoying notifications on Facebook and I don’t want to see/have that on my Google+ stream.

Since the publication of the post and infographic, the author has added/made one correction regarding the ability to share a post to specific people on Google+ by simply clicking on “add more people”. Btw, if you’re on Google+ feel free to add me – Jaypee Habaradas

Google +1 Button WordPress Plugin

Google officially released the +1 Button last week and you’ve probably already seen it on some of your favorite websites or blogs. Google has also released the code and provided the resource for webmasters to create a customized version of the +1 button. However, customizing and adding the +1 code takes some time and can be a bit complex for some users.

If you run a WordPress-powered blog/website and would like to install the Google +1 button without having to worry about customizing, editing and uploading files via FTP, etc. then you need to use the Google +1 Button WordPress Plugin. This plugin was created by my friend AJ Batac, the same person who gave us the Facebook “Like” Button WordPress Plugin.

The Google +1 Button WordPress Plugin allows users to quickly and easily add the +1 button without having to customize or tweak a single line of code. Everything is done via the WordPress dashboard.

Installation:

Upload the entire “google-plus-one-button-plugin” folder to the “/wp-content/plugins/” directory
Activate the plugin through the Plugins menu in WordPress
Set it up. There should be a new menu link on your WordPress left menu. Select your Google +1 options and hit save.

As you can see, I’ve installed Google +1 Button WordPress plugin here on JaypeeOnline. It took a little bit of tweaking and trial & error to make the TweetMeme button and Google +1 button to work nicely together. I love this plugin because not only does it provide my readers another option of sharing my posts but it was easy to install, didn’t cause any problems or compatibility issues with my other plugins and its FREE!

Some additional features that I would like to see added to this plugin are the options to display/hide the button on pages, on the homepage or on the RSS feed and also the option to install it manually using a shortcode. If you want to try it out, just click on the +1 button on the top left portion of this post and see how it works (You must be logged in to your Google account for it to work).

Are you an avid Twitter user? Whether you use it for work, personal use or both, have you ever imagined what your life would’ve been without the popular social networking tool? Even though not everyone uses Twitter, it is already a part of our everyday life and our culture. Twitter is now being used by celebrities, retail companies, news/media networks, sports teams and even politicians.

Hubspot recently released an infographic entitled Life Without Twitter that takes a humorous approach on what life would be like without Twitter.
