Last year, I bought a Toshiba Mini Notebook NB505-N508BL to replace my wife’s Asus Eee 1005HAB after it broke. The Toshiba netbook was pretty good and did what it was supposed to do. Netbooks were made for simple tasks like browsing the Internet, typing emails and documents but not extensive tasks like video editing.

The regular retail price for the model that I got was $1,549.00 but with the ecoupon worth $620, I ended up paying only $929. I’ve only tried using the Lenovo U400-09932TU for basic stuff – web browsing, playing mp3s, etc. I still have to perform extensive testing (photo manipulation, video editing, play extensive graphics games, etc.) before I can write my full review, so expect it about a week from now. However, based on the design, usability and what I’ve seen so far, I can say that the Lenovo U400 is a pretty awesome notebook.

Remember the early Christmas gift that I was talking about? Well this is it, a brand new Lenovo IdeaPad Y560. My Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872 was still running fine but it was already slowing down and started to show signs of “old age” like failing to boot up at times, so I decided not to wait until it died on me and get a new one. I decided to go with the Asus laptop not only because it was a bit cheaper but also also because it had a slightly bigger screen and a faster HDD. But just as I was about to purchase it, something inside of me kept me from doing it. So I decided to go online and read more reviews about both laptops and I ended up finding a $530 Lenovo IdeaPad Y560 coupon.

I was really fortunate to find that $530 coupon and was able to use it just a few days before it expired. With the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560 (0646-5GU), I was able to get a fast processor – 1.73 GHz Intel Core i7-740QM Quad-Core Processor, a good graphics card – 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, a fast hard drive – 500GB 7200rpm HDD and an upgraded memory – 6GB RAM all for the same amount that I would’ve paid if I purchased the Asus laptop I found on Amazon. Had I decided to get that and wanted to upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 6GB, that would’ve cost me an additional $50 at least.

I’ve only had the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560 (0646-5GU) for about two weeks now, but haven’t had any problems with it so far. I’ve already installed all the necessary programs, transferred all my files and last but not least, set it up to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu. The only thing that I don’t like about it is that the built is not as strong as I wanted it to be or expected it to be but nevertheless, I’m still very happy with it and it has performed very well according to its specifications. I’ll post a more detailed review of it soon so if you’re interested, watch out for it.

Lenovo, one of the leading PC makers jumped into the 3D laptop train with the official release of the IdeaPad Y560d earlier today. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d is Lenovo’s first 3D laptop which is aimed at gamers and people who want to watch movies in HD.

A maxed out Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d runs on 1.86GHz quad Core i7, 8GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon HD5730 graphics card. It sports a 15.6-inch display, a built-in stereo system, an optional Blu-ray drive and 750GB of hard disk space (5400 rpm). Customers have the option of faster drives with 7200 rpm or SSDs.

This laptop uses the TriDef 3D technology that can make normal 2D content like movies and turn them (make them appear) in 3D. The IdeaPad Y560d also comes with Lenovo’s new RapidDrive technology that combines SSD and HDD storage solutions enabling faster boot times. The only downside to the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d is that it only has a maximum of 5 hours of battery life with integrated graphics.
