Qirina – Keyword Analysis and Comparison Engine

Today, I wanna share something to those of you who are into SEO – Search Engine Optimization, especially those who are looking into keyword comparison and keyword analysis. I know there are lots of SEO and keyword tools out there like the Google Adwords Keyword Tool or the Free Keyword Tool but I’m sure it won’t hurt and you won’t mind having another tool to use, right?

Qirina is a keyword analysis and comparison engine that can be used to review a website’s on-site SEO. It can also be used to compare a website’s data with that of competitor’s sites and also for finding other websites that belong to a particular niche.

Here’s what they have on their About page:

Qirina is not a search engine, and will not compete against Google. Instead, we are creating a lexicographical map of the web space which will show you where sites lie in relation to each other in the matrix consisting of keywords, which we call the keyspace.
How does this benefit you? By having access to a map based on the relations between sites in the keyspace, you will find relevant sites more quickly, and understand the dynamics of keyword-based traffic. Site owners benefit, too. They will understand better the position of their sites in the keyspace, as seen from the perspective of a search engine, and spot obvious SEO shortcomings for the first time. They will also know where to build on strengths.

How does Qirina work?

Qirina extracts relational keywords and tags from a website and uses it to create a keyword map of the web. Qirina determines a website’s niche by scanning the front page and looks at the keywords, then compares it with other sites in the Qirina database.

To use Qirina, just enter a specific keyword or domain. For keyword searches, Qirina will display the Relevant keys and Related sites while for domain searches, Qirina will display the website Title, Probable niche, Niche keys, Summary, Key keywords, Key phrases, Domain name keywords and Stats.

Website title – self explanatory.
Probable niche – website niche according to Qirina’s keyword analysis
Niche keys – keywords that are associated with the website’s probably niche
Summary – summary of the different statistics gathered by Qirina on that specific website
Key keywords – dominant keywords for that specific website
Key phrases – dominant phrases for that specific website
Domain name keywords – significant keywords found in the website’s domain name
Stats – different stats

Qirina has great potential to be a very good and useful SEO evaluation tool. However, the Qirina database is still very limited at the moment as searches for popular keywords like make money online, blogging tips and search engine optimization only list a few websites or doesn’t even show the popular blogs for that particular niche or keyword. But then, Qirina is still in beta testing so there’s still some things being worked on and still more space for improvement.

Google Instant – Faster Than The Speed of Type

Yesterday, while I was doing some SEO (Search Engine Optimization) work on Google Search, I noticed that it behaved differently. I noticed that while I was typing the keywords, Google immediately showed me suggestions for what I was typing in, similar to how Google Suggest works. Since I was busy at that time and concentrating on what I was doing, I didn’t really pay attention to it or stop to check why Google Search was behaving that way.

I knew that Google had a special announcement due that day but it never occurred to me at that time that the “strange” behavior of Google Search had something to do with the special announcement. When I found out about it later that day, it was then that I realized that what I had experienced earlier was Google Instant at work.

For those of you who aren’t familiar or haven’t heard about Google Instant, here’s an excerpt from the official Google Instant page.

Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type. We are pushing the limits of our technology and infrastructure to help you get better search results, faster. Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type.
The most obvious change is that you get to the right content much faster than before because you don’t have to finish typing your full search term, or even press “search.” Another shift is that seeing results as you type helps you formulate a better search term by providing instant feedback. You can now adapt your search on the fly until the results match exactly what you want. In time, we may wonder how search ever worked in any other way.

Google Instant Core Features:

Dynamic Results – Google dynamically displays relevant search results as you type so you can quickly interact and click through to the web content you need.
Predictions – One of the key technologies in Google Instant is that we predict the rest of your query (in light gray text) before you finish typing. See what you need? Stop typing, look down and find what you’re looking for.
Scroll to search – Scroll through predictions and see results instantly for each as you arrow down.

Benefits:

Faster Searches: By predicting your search and showing results before you finish typing, Google Instant can save 2-5 seconds per search.
Smarter Predictions: Even when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, predictions help guide your search. The top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need.
Instant Results: Start typing and results appear right before your eyes. Until now, you had to type a full search term, hit return, and hope for the right results. Now results appear instantly as you type, helping you see where you’re headed, every step of the way.

At first Google Instant only worked if the user was logged in to his/her Google account. I confirmed this by trying out Google Search while I was logged and also while I was logged out and it didn’t work for the latter. Later that day, I found out that Google Instant was now available to everyone and no longer required a user to be logged in to a Google account.

With the launch of Google Instant, SEO experts, bloggers, webmasters all have different opinions regarding the effects of Google Instant to SEO or Search Engine Optimization. Some say that Google Instant will kill SEO, others say that it will have a negative effect on long tail keywords, that page title tags, meta descriptions, rich snippets & breadcrumb snippets now become more relevant in SEO, etc.

Although I know the basics of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and know a few tricks, I am not an expert. So I can’t really say what the effects of Google Instant will be to SEO. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. One thing for sure, this new Google Search algorithm will benefit users because it will save them time.

Ever come across the term SEO while surfing the web or browsing through blogs? Do you know what SEO is? I’m guessing most of you don’t. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Although it is widely used in the Internet, many people even bloggers are still not familiar with what SEO is and/or how it works.

According to Wikipedia:

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a web site or a web page in search engines via the “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results.

We won’t go into further details about SEO because it’s a long and hard topic to discuss but I’d just like to share with you something I came across the other day.

To help us better understand SEO and Social Media Marketing, the folks over at BloggingPro have created an infographic called “A Visual Guide to SEO” and shared it on their post entitled “The Complete Guide to Search Engine and Social Media Marketing“. This infographic covers the basics of SEO and also explains the different components of search engine optimization like link infrastructure, keywords, social media campaigns, PPC and linkbaits.

Free Google Analytics API Dashboard Application

To keep track of the different blog statistics here on JaypeeOnline, my analytics service of choice is Reinvigorate. I’ve been using it for about 3 years now. Aside from that I also use Clicky which I started using early this year. The first free analytics service I tried/used was Google Analytics, but I stopped using it because I didn’t like how it worked and it didn’t have certain features that I wanted/needed and thats why I moved to Reinvigorate. Recently, I started using Google Analytics again so that I have another source of data that I can use to compare with the other analytics services that I use.

Last week, the Google Analytics blog published about a new Free Google Analytics Dashboard Application called Trakkboard. Trakkboard is a free, easy to use desktop application that allows analysts to create dashboards that pull data across different Google Analytics logins and different Google Analytics profiles to display top level metrics all within the same view. Trakkboard is created by German-based company Trakken GmbH and is available in English, Spanish and German.

If you want to get your hands on Trakkboard, first you’ll have to submit your email address to get a license key. Once you have your license key, you can proceed with downloading and installing it. Once its finished installing, you’ll be asked to create a login password for Trakkboard and later on, it will ask for your license key. Next step is to provide your Google Analytics profile login details and once you’ve logged in, you can proceed with adding widgets to your dashboard. Available widgets are: Visits, Visitors, Pageviews, Medium, Source, Top/Flop Keywords, Pages/Visits, Bouncerate, TimeOnSite, All Goals, Goal 1, Goal 2, Goal 3, Goal 4 and Notes. You can also specify the timeline or timespan of the stats displayed on each widget.

Trakkboard is an Adobe AIR app so you’ll need Adobe AIR to be installed on your computer. Since this app is powered by Adobe AIR, it means that its cross-platform and you can install it on any OS (Windows, Mac or Linux).

Trakkboard is ideal for those users who manage several Google Analytics profiles because with this app, you don’t have to login/logout from each profile to check on other profiles. With Trakkboard you can access all those profiles on one single app or window. It’s simple and straightforward so Google Analytics users won’t have a hard time using this app.
