The JaypeeOnline Ovi app is now available to download for FREE from the Ovi Store. Now you can receive the latest updates right on your Nokia mobile device with this custom app. For those of you who’ve tried the app, I’d like to hear if you have any suggestions or feedback regarding the app.

Here’s the long overdue, year-end post that I was supposed to publish last week. I started doing this annual recaps three years ago and it has become a yearly habit since then. Like I’ve mentioned in the past, these recaps are a great way to look back to the events, issues, accomplishments and other stuff that me and my blog have gone through the past year as well as appreciate all the blessings that I’ve received.

Below is a list of events and other significant things that happened and/or was published on JaypeeOnline for the year 2010:

• Like last year, one of the first things I did was to set up my blog goals for 2010.
• Received my new PayPal Debit Card as the previous one was already expired.
• Bought my wife an Asus Eee 1005HAB to replace the Compaq Presario C714NR which she gave to her sister.
• Made it to the list of the Best WordPress Related Blogs. (Rankings based on Google Pagerank, Alexa Rank and Feedburner subscriber count)
• Listed as one of the Top Blogs in the Philippines for 2009 based on Alexa rankings.
• Bought my first DSLR camera, a Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i.
• Sponsored the Cebu Blog Camp 2010.
• Received a review unit of the Nokia 3G Booklet from Nokia WOMWorld.
• First sponsored giveaway of the year – 500 Color Business Cards from uPrinting.
• The one and only guest post that I had for 2010 – HowTo: Save For Your Apple Gadget Fix by the Silicon Valley Blogger of The Digerati Life.
• Bought a new printer – Canon PIXMA MX340 to replace the broken HP PSC 1410 All-in-One Printer.
• Experienced the worst and longest downtime ever. JaypeeOnline was initially down for 10 hours and was down again for several more hours in the next couple of days. Total downtime = approximately 24 hours. Routine server maintenance procedure that went haywire. My hosting provider acknowledge their fault and credited me with 2 months of hosting.
• Attended the Nokia World 2010 (online). Nokia WOMWorld sent me a virtual event pack which included a bag, a tshirt, several 3D glasses and an ID badge.
• Hosted a second business cards giveaway – 1,000 Business Cards Giveaway from PrintRunner.
• Launched the biggest contest/giveaway here on JaypeeOnline – the $3,500+ Christmas Giveaway. Was able to gather that much/amount of prizes in just a week’s time. It was a huge success thanks to the participants and generous sponsors.
• Found out that JaypeeOnline was one of the finalists for the 2010 Philippine Blog Awards. Making it the second year in a row and the third time for this blog to make it as a finalist for the Best Technology Blog Category.
• Finally got my own WordPress Mug which I bought from the WordPress Swag Store.
• Got myself an early Christmas gift in the form of a Lenovo IdeaPad Y560 laptop to replace my old laptop – Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872.

Although I wasn’t able to accomplish all of my blogging goals for last year, 2010 was still another great year for me and my blog. I’m also glad that I was able to share my blessings by hosting the $3,500+ Christmas Giveaway. I hope that this year, 2011 will continue to be good or become better for all of us.

I was supposed to publish my year end post last week but like I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I was pretty busy the past couple of weeks with all the family gatherings and activities tied to the holiday season. Anyways, when I first did this two years ago, I didn’t plan or expect that this would be a regular “annual” thing here on JaypeeOnline. It turned out to be a great way for me to look back and appreciate all the blessings that I’ve received for that year. I know this is a bit late, but I really feel that I should do this so here it is.

The following is the list of events and other significant things that happened and/or was published on JaypeeOnline for the year 2009:

• I set up my blog goals for 2009, a first of its kind for JaypeeOnline. Btw, I’ll be publishing a different post regarding last year’s blog goals.
• Achieved one of the goals I set for last year by attending WordCamp Las Vegas with my friend Allan. Looking for this year’s event and hopefully attend WordCamp LA as well.
• Had my first guest blog post here on JaypeeOnline – HowTo: Move From Blogger to WordPress courtesy of Gemma Baltazar (The Lady Programmer).
• Made it to the top 25 of the Philippine’s Top Blogs based on Alexa rankings.
• HowTo: 10 Ways To Bring Sexy Back To Your Blog – second guest post here on JaypeeOnline, courtesy of Jan Geronimo (Writing To Exhale).
• Left MediaTemple and moved to a different, private dedicated server.
• Got back after a 2-month hiatus.
• Finally got my own blog mascot for JaypeeOnline.
• Created and uploaded my new customized Twitter background, incorporating my new blog mascot.
• Launched my second blog contest/giveaway – the Threadless Tshirt Giveaway.
• Found out that I was one of the finalists for the 2009 Philippine Blog Awards.
• Highlight of the year for me and my blog – JaypeeOnline brings home the trophy for the Technology Category in the 2009 Philippine Blog Awards.
• Participated in my first Blog Action Day and blogged about “climate change”.
• Finally, after having issues and lots of problems with my previous hosting provider, I migrated to my new web host – ServInt.
• Launched my 3rd blog contest/giveaway – the $1,500 Thanksgiving Giveaway. Which by the way, was a huge success, thanks to all the participants and sponsors.
• After more than a month of waiting, I finally received my trophy and a Nokia E52 from the Philippine Blog Awards.
• Got an early Christmas gift from my lovely wife – a shiny, new iPhone 3GS.

I know there are many things to be thankful for but last year’s highlight was winning the Tech category in the Philippine Blog Awards. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of my family, friends and you guys, the regular readers/visitors of JaypeeOnline. I’m happy that I almost successfully accomplished 100% of the blog goals I set for last year. Don’t worry, I’ll get into more of the details of that in a different post. With all the blessings that I received in 2009, it was definitely a great year for me and my blog. I’m also glad that I was able to share my blessings with you guys via my $1,500 Thanksgiving Giveaway.

I hope that this year – 2010 would be a better year for all of us. Once again, thank you so much for all your support!

This post is a little bit delayed and I’m sure most of you guys already know about it by now that JaypeeOnline won the Best Technology Blog award in the recent 2009 Philippine Blog Awards. I wanted to take my time in publishing this post not because I was preparing to write a very lengthy post but because up to this moment, it still feels surreal. I still can’t believe it. Its probably because I wasn’t at the PETA-PHINMA Theater to receive the trophy and that I still don’t have the trophy with me or maybe because I wasn’t expecting to win?

Anyways, I first found out about it on Twitter, when I read the tweets sent by Ate Noemi and Tonyo Cruz. It should’ve been enough for me to believe it but it was about 5 AM and I only had a few hours sleep so I was thinking that maybe my eyes were deceiving me. I logged in to Flippish.com to watch the live stream and from there, Ambo told me that I won. I thought I was still dreaming. I still wasn’t 100% convinced because I didn’t get to see or hear the presentors calling out my blog’s name. I wanted to see and hear it for myself before I believed it was true.

Later that day, I went back to Flippish.com to watch the video recordings of the event. After sifting through several videos, I was able to find the one that had Technology category and watched as Jayvee Fernandez and Erika Tapalla presented the award. It felt really good and I was very happy when I heard the name “JaypeeOnline” announced as the winner.

Here’s the link to the video where the award for the Technology Category was presented. Fast forward to 5:20 for the Technology Category and then 8:46 where Jayvee greets me and mentions that I was online watching the live stream. Thanks Jayvee!

I’ve been wanting to attend the Philippine Blog Awards since its first year and I really wish I was there this year. It would’ve been a great experience to meet my online/blogging friends and meet other Pinoy bloggers and see faces behind the blogs. Of course, this award would’ve made it extra special. Btw to the winners of the other categories and special awards, if you’d like a banner like the one I have here on this post and on my sidebar, just leave a comment below or send me a message via the contact page and I’ll gladly make one for you.

Now its time to give thanks. First and foremost, I’d like to thank God for giving me good health, strength and wisdom. Next, I’d like to thank my family for their support, they are my inspiration. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas at ang Pinoy bloggers! One Blogging Nation!

I signed-up last Friday but I was too busy and didn’t have time to do it. So if you noticed any downtime earlier, that because I was setting up my account, moving all my files and restoring my backups and finished around 1 AM Sunday morning. I supposed to finish this entry and publish it but I was so sleepy. The transition went well and I didn’t have any problems restoring my backups. The only thing that caused delay was me trying to get used to Dreamhost’s user panel. It’s totally different from Cpanel of which I’ve been using for a long time.

I’d also like to thank the guys at IGB for hosting my blog totally free for several years. You’ve been a great help to me and for JaypeeOnline.Net and I will never forget your kindness and hospitality.

Other Updates:

First update: When WordPress 2.1.3 was released, I wasn’t able to upgrade my installation right away because I was more worried about the problems I was experiencing within my blog. The only time I was able to upgrade was when I moved to Dreamhost. It was also easy coz they have a One-Click install section where you get to choose different programs like WordPress, Joomla, phpBB and have it installed for you with just one click of a button. All I had to do was upload my custom files and restore my database using phpMyAdmin.

Second update: I installed a plugin called Edit Comment created by Andrew Sutherland. What it does is that it enables blog readers to edit their comments within a specified time limit. This is useful because there are times when readers want to change or add something to their comment or sometimes correct a misspelt word and couldn’t do it because they’ve already hit the submit button. I know how it is coz I’ve experienced it a lot of times myself while leaving comments on other blogs. I’ve configured the plugin to let readers edit their comments within 30 minutes. Please let me know if it doesn’t work or if you experience problems with this feature.

Third update: I’m slowly switching to Gmail. If I frequently visit your blogs, you might notice that I’m using a new email address. I now use one of my Gmail accounts as my primary email account for blogging and for personal use. One of the main reasons why I made the switch is because of the POP access which I couldn’t do with Yahoo! Mail or Hotmail without using a third-party program. With Gmail, I can download email on my desktop using Thunderbird or in my Pocket PC. I’ll still be using my Yahoo! accounts but only for backup purposes and other subscription details.
