Got word from my online buddy Jhay Rocas about an upcoming forum entitled “The Filipino Blogosphere: Political Expression, Communication, and Participation“. The forum will be about the results of a recent study* made by Ms. Mary Grace Mirandilla-Santos an independent ICT/Telecom researcher on A-list Filipino political bloggers and their readers: motivation, political attitude and modes of political participation.

The “The Filipino Blogosphere: Political Expression, Communication, and Participation” forum will be held at the Case Room, G/F of the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) building, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City this coming Saturday – February 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM.

Aside from the main forum, there will also be a discussion on related topics like Blogging and the Filipino identity, Political expression and Communication, and Journalism. Other speakers include Dr. Erwin Alampay, Prof. Danilo Arao, Ms. Stephanie Rabia, and Mr. Juned Sunido.

iBlog6: The 6th Philippine Blogging Summit

A few days ago, the organizers of the Philippine Blogging Summit announced and posted the schedule of iBlog6: The 6th Philippine Blogging Summit. This year’s event is scheduled for April 16-17 and will be held at the Malcolm Theater of the UP College of Law, University of the Philippines Diliman Campus.

Previous Blogging Summits were only 1 day events. This year, iBlog6 will be 2 days and as usual, it is open to everyone and registration is FREE. Day 1 of the event will be for businesses and entrepreneurs who are interested to know how to tap blogs as a medium for promoting their products and services. Day 2 is meant for everyone who interested about blogging.

Filipino Bloggers Promote Ovi by Nokia

While browsing the web the other day, I came across this cool promo video featuring some Filipino bloggers promoting Ovi, Nokia’s Internet services. For those who are not familiar with what Ovi by Nokia is for or what it is about, here’s a short description I got from Wikipedia:

Ovi by Nokia is the brand for Nokia’s Internet services. The Ovi services can be used from a mobile device, computer (through Nokia Ovi Suite) or via the web (Ovi.com). Nokia focuses on five key services areas: Games, Maps, Media, Messaging and Music. Nokia’s aim with Ovi is to include 3rd parties, such as operators and third-party services like Yahoo’s Flickr photo site. With the announcement of Ovi Maps Player API, Nokia has started to evolve their services into a platform, enabling third-parties to make use of Nokia’s Ovi services.

Now that you have an idea on what Ovi by Nokia is or how it works, here’s the video featuring some of the top local bloggers from the Philippines promoting Ovi by Nokia:

I like the video and I can honestly say that everyone – Nokia, video production team and the bloggers all did a good job in this video. Presentation was good, smooth and pretty convincing. I wonder if Nokia will produce another video and feature a different set of Pinoy bloggers?

Weekend Roundup #54

Hi folks! First of all, my sincere apologies for this late edition of the Weekend Roundup. This past weekend was a very busy one, full of activities and programs. First we had a program in church last Saturday afternoon, then after that we had to attend a wedding rehearsal where my son was supposed to be the ring bearer. Sunday morning, I played basketball and later went out with my family to buy some stuff and attended the wedding later that afternoon. Came home late and was very tired and sleepy so I just went to bed right away. This morning, I woke up with a terrible stomach ache. After feeling a little bit better, I went on to finish and publish this post because I know many of you guys are waiting for it. Hope you enjoy this week’s roundup.

Join The Filipino Bloggers Survey

Please join the survey on Filipino Bloggers by a group of Psychology undergraduate students from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. This survey is for their final study in Psychology 118 class (Field Methods in Psychology), they would like to explore the blogging phenomenon in the Philippines. They need your help in filling out this survey to help them understand what motivates you to blog, how blogging has helped you and how much of yourself is present in your blogs.

They need 250 bloggers for this survey.

Qualifications:
1. Must be a Filipino by blood or citizenship
2. Must be residing in the Philippines
3. Must own and maintain a personal blog

Privacy will be respected and all results will be kept anonymous. All blog URLs will be deleted after the study has been completed. At the end of the survey, you may opt to receive the survey results.

So far, 170 bloggers have already responded and they need 80 more respondents. I’ve already done the survey and if you’re qualified, you should do too. It only takes a couple minutes of your time and you’ll be helping these students with their project.
