Good day people! How are you all doing? Pardon this slightly late edition of the Weekend Roundup. This time, the reason why I published this article a bit late is because of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week. Instead of finishing this article, I spent most of my free time yesterday watching the different shows featured on Shark Week. For those of you who are regular readers, you know that July was an “unproductive” month for me as I only published a total of 13 articles. I promise that I’ll make it up to you guys by posting more updates and articles and a little bit something to reward you guys for your continued support.

Weekend Roundup #69

Hello everyone! How are you all doing? How was your weekend? Did you just stay home or did you spend your weekend somewhere else? For me, this weekend was exactly the same as last weekend. We weren’t able to go to church and just stayed home because my wife was sick and she also had to call off from work today. This time though, its not only her. I’m also not feeling well and I feel like I’m gonna go down with the flu because of the flu-like symptoms like headache, cough and runny nose. Hope it doesn’t get worse and I hope my son doesn’t get sick too.

Anyways, its still business as usual here on JaypeeOnline and I present to you this week’s edition of the Weekend Roundup. Hope you guys enjoy reading it.

Weekend Roundup #54

Hi folks! First of all, my sincere apologies for this late edition of the Weekend Roundup. This past weekend was a very busy one, full of activities and programs. First we had a program in church last Saturday afternoon, then after that we had to attend a wedding rehearsal where my son was supposed to be the ring bearer. Sunday morning, I played basketball and later went out with my family to buy some stuff and attended the wedding later that afternoon. Came home late and was very tired and sleepy so I just went to bed right away. This morning, I woke up with a terrible stomach ache. After feeling a little bit better, I went on to finish and publish this post because I know many of you guys are waiting for it. Hope you enjoy this week’s roundup.

A New Breed of Comment Spam

Commenting or comments is one of the essential parts of a blog. Weblog owners provide and allow users and visitors to leave comments so they can easily share their thoughts and opinions which encourages participation and gives the readers a sense of belongingness. However, spammers are abusing the system and are flooding blogs daily with comment spam.

Thanks to Akismet and spam captchas like ReCAPTCHA, fighting comment spam is a bit easier now. However, spammers are also getting smarter. Nowadays aside from their spambots, they hire real people to post spam comments because they can answer and bypass spam captchas. They are also changing their style of commenting by leaving comments that read and sound like they were legitimate comments. These days we are seeing a new breed of comment spam.

Here’s one particular comment spam that I’ve received several times:

This comment was posted automatically using Blog Comment Poster software. Would you like to make serious money in this way of advertising too? So start today!

This one can be easily identified as spam, but what makes it interesting is the fact they are actually selling software that would automatically post comments on blogs. Although it may seem as an effective and convenient way of advertising it the comment says, I’m sure legit business owners wouldn’t jeopardize their business by using this method of advertising.

Here’s another one I received a couple weeks ago.

hello , my name is Richard and I know you get a lot of spammy comments , I can help you with this problem. I know a lot of spammers and I will ask them not to post on your site. It will reduce the volume of spam by 30-50% .In return Id like to ask you to put a link to my site on the index page of your site. The link will be small and your visitors will hardly notice it , its just done for higher rankings in search engines. Contact me icq 454528835 or write me tedirectory(at)yahoo.com , i will give you my site url and you will give me yours if you are interested. thank you

Right away, I knew it was comment spam but unlike Aja who also got the same comment, I didn’t delete it right away but instead kept it in the comment queue for future reference. It was the first time I received this type of comment and I thought it was ingenious. I’m sure it has duped a few people. So if you ever receive this comment on your blog, NEVER reply! If you make the mistake of doing so, you’ll only be providing them with your precious email address and most likely be receiving more spam in your inbox.
