This 10% BestBuy printable coupon only works on BestBuy stores, not online so you’ll have to go and visit your local BestBuy store to use it. You can print this coupon or save the image on your mobile phone or open this website on your mobile phone and present it to the cashier. How do I know this works? Because I used the same coupon to purchase my “new toy” the other day. Btw, make sure you read the coupon details (fine print) first before buying something. The past couple of months had been very “fruitful” and “rewarding” for my blog. As a reward to myself for the hardwork I’ve done, I decided to get myself a DSLR camera. A few months ago, I was thinking/planning of getting the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi aka Canon EOS 450D, but when the time came for me to pick out something to buy I changed my mind and opted for the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i aka Canon EOS 500D.

I bought the Canon T1i online from BestBuy just like I did with most of the gadgets I purchased before. I got it for $799 with free 3-day shipping and got the package earlier today via UPS.

Since I only got it today, I haven’t been able to fully test it or take different types of shots. I’m not an expert photographer and I’m still a newbie to photography so this will be the start of a fun learning experience for me. Now that I have the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i, I’ll have more and better photos to put up on the photoblog that I’ve been planning to start.

He doesn’t know it yet, but my cousin’s gonna be very happy because I’ll be passing on to him my old camera, the Canon Powershot S3 IS which is a very reliable camera and still in excellent condition.

Got an Asus Eee PC (netbook) from BestBuy two weeks ago. No, this is not mine but rather my wife’s new “toy”. Previously, she was using my old laptop – the Compaq Presario C714NR but decided to give it to her sister who needed it. The Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872 is my work machine and sharing it would be difficult so we decided to get my wife a new machine. Since she only needs a computer for checking her email, checking her Facebook account, surfing the web and watching YouTube videos, a netbook would be enough. Found one online on BestBuy, an Asus Eee PC 1005HAB on sale for $329. Paid for expedited shipping and got it within 3 days.

As the in-house desktop support, I had the privilege of playing with it first. The Asus Eee 1005HAB didn’t have much bloatware installed so it took me only a few minutes to install the necessary programs like antivirus, web browser, media player, etc., update Windows and configure other settings. I also replaced the default blue Windows color scheme/theme to a black theme which looks much better and makes the desktop look nicer. Finding and connecting to my WiFi network was a breeze with the Asus Eee 1005HAB.

The Asus Eee 1005HAB comes with 1GB of RAM installed and is enough to run Windows XP but I do plan to upgrade it to 2GB as soon as I order some from Newegg. The WXGA LED-backlight widescreen display is clear and crisp and displayed DVD-quality videos very well. Other features I love on the Asus Eee 1005HAB are the 3 USB ports (love that it has 3 USB ports and love the location of the ports), the 3-in-1 media card reader and the 6-cell lithium-ion battery that can last up to 8 hours.

There were several models that had a bigger hard drive space (250 GB) but had Windows 7 Starter Edition installed so I opted for the one with Windows XP. For those who aren’t familiar, the Windows 7 Starter Edition is very limited – only allows 3 applications running at the same time and you can’t even replace the wallpaper. I regret not getting the $30 WIndows 7 Home Edition upgrade last month.

The only cons with the Asus Eee 1005HAB? The glossy finish around the display/keyboard and the hand rest area are fingerprint magnets and takes extra effort to remove. The other one is that the keyboards are a bit loose and feel kinda cheap. However, these are very minor flaws. Overall, I’m really impressed and I don’t regret purchasing the Asus Eee 1005HAB.

For those of you who follow me in Plurk, many of you already know by now that my laptop, a Compaq Presario C714NR died on me last week. Now you know why I haven’t updated or published new posts during the past week. Anyways, I took my laptop to BestBuy and had the Geek Squad check it. After doing a series of tests, they determined that it was the motherboard. I wasn’t that convinced because the guy I talked to didn’t sound too confident with his answers. I thought about asking a second opinion from another computer repair shop but since the laptop is still under warranty, I’m sending it back to HP/Compaq so they can check and/or repair it. I’ve already contacted them and they’ll be sending a box for shipping. I’m hoping that the initial diagnosis is wrong and that it’s not the motherboard that’s broken but something minor that can be easily repaired and is covered by the warranty because it only has a 1 year limited warranty.

Since I initially thought that the laptop was no longer under warranty and that I couldn’t have it fixed/repaired, I went ahead and looked for a new one to replace it. I searched online for the best deal I could find and found one over at BestBuy. It was for a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872 which was on sale for $599 (regular retail price $749). Because I used a BestBuy credit card to purchase it, I was able to avail of an 18-month no interest financing offer.

The Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872 was only available online so it wasn’t available for store-pickup and I had no choice but to pay for shipping. I bought it Wednesday afternoon and got Monday afternoon. I’m glad that I was able to get it while it was on sale because a couple days after I bought it, it was back to its original retail price. I’ve only had this Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872 for a couple days now and I haven’t tried all of its features like the webcam, media card reader and other stuff so I can’t write a review right now, but for sure I’ll be able to write a review in about a couple weeks time so watch out for that.

On a side note, now that I have this to work with, I’ll be doing a lot of catching up in the next few days – publishing new posts, blog hopping, replying to comments and emails. I’m also working on a new blog design/layout which I hope I would be able to finish and implement soon.

Setting it up was fast and easy. I just popped in the install CD and followed the instructions. Btw, I used the manual setup instead of the Smart Wizard. The installation process included creating a name (SSID) for your wireless network, choosing the type of security encryption and creating a password. After the installation and configuration was done, all I had to do was reboot my laptop and when I logged in, I was able to connect to the network right away.

This is the first wireless router that I’ve purchased and the first time to use a NetGear wireless router because the ones I had before were Actiontec routers provided for free by my previous ISP, Verizon. Aside from the easy setup and nice design (looks better than most routers), the NetGear Super-G wireless router also has a great range so I get the same high speed connection anywhere in the house. Since I’ve had this router, I’ve never had any problems with it like dropped connections or continuous resets which are the common complaints of a few users who bought this product.

Based on it’s performance and from my experience using it, I would definitely recommend the NetGear Super-G Wireless Router to friends and to you my readers. However with regards to the installation, if you have little knowledge of computers or if you’re technologically challenged, I advise that you use the Smart Wizard to do the setup or you can ask a friend to do it for you. Otherwise, if you have a fair knowledge of computers you can use the manual setup without any problems.
