NBA All Star 2008

For the first time in the last several years, I wasn’t able to cast my vote for the NBA All Star lineup. The 2008 NBA All Star Game will be held on February 17, at the New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisianna. This year’s event will be the 57th annual All Star game since it was first introduced in the league back in 1951.
Other events like the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge, FootLocker Three-Point Shootout, Playstation Skills Challenge and Sprite Slam Dunk contest will be held on February 15 & 16 before the All Star Game.

East Starting Lineup
G - Jason Kidd (New Jersey Nets)
G - Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat)
F - Lebron James (Cleveland Cavaliers)
F - Kevin Garnett (Boston Celtics)
C - Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic)
East Reserves
G - Chauncey Billups (Detroit Pistons)
PF/C - Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors)
SF - Caron Butler (Washington Wizards)
SG - Richard Hamilton (Detroit Pistons)
PF - Antawn Jamison (Washington Wizards)
SG - Joe Johnson (Atlanta Hawks)
SF - Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics)

West Starting Lineup:
G - Allen Iversion (Denver Nuggets)
G - Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers)
F - Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets)
F - Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs)
C - Yao Ming (Houston Rockets)
West Reserves
PF - Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz)
PG - Steve Nash (Phoenix Suns)
PF - Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks)
PG - Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets)
SG - Brandon Roy (Portland Trail Blazers)
C - Amaré Stoudemire (Phoenix Suns)
PF - David West (New Orleans Hornets)
My candidates would have been almost the same with the final roster for each squad except for one. IMO, I don’t believe that Carmelo Anthony should be a starter for the West squad. It should’ve been Carlos Boozer or Dirk Nowitzki. Oh well, I guess he has more fans than the other players in the reserve list.
This year’s All Star game will be interesting because many players have been traded and switched teams so some of them who used to play for the West will now play for the East and vice versa. In last year’s All Star game, the West won over the East with a score of 153 to 132. The West squad still looks stronger if you look at the roster but the East has games even with a less star studded lineup. I hope Kevin Garnett could play so that the East would have a better chance of playing against the West.
I now I’m from the West coast but I’ve always rooted for the East squad ever since. I think it’s because I was a Michael Jordan fan and he always played for the East. Anyways, this year won’t be different and I’ll still be rooting for the Eastern team.
Here’s an interesting trivia. Shaquille O’Neal will not be part of the 2008 All Star Game for the first time in 14 years as a starter or a reserve.

OMG! Carter is missing
@icetech - I know! Vince Carter is one of my favorite basketball players and he’s one of the players I want to see in the All Star Game because hops and awesome dunks. Thanks for dropping by!
I love this site - stumbled on it while researching basketball in the Phillipines. I write a blog about the Cleveland Cavaliers hosted by the Plain Dealer through Cleveland.com but am also interested in basketball history and basketball throughout the world. Your site gives me two reasons to read - blogging tips and the NBA. Thank you.
I am happy to see my favorite player, Allen Iverson, is there…
