It’s the time of the year when basketball fans get to see their favorite players showcase their skills in different events or contests.
The 2006 NBA All-Star Game will be made up of six events; The Playstation Skills Challenge, RadioShack Shooting Stars, T-Mobile Rookie Challenge, Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout, Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk and the East vs. West All-Star Game. My favorites are the Three-Point Shootout, Slam Dunk and All-Star Game.
This year’s venue would be Houston, Texas. Every year, I try to join and send my ballot. I choose players who have a “showtime” type of game. Players like Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James etc. For me, that’s what the All-Star game is about – Showtime & Entertainment. It’s supposed to give the fans one game in a season where the players show their athletic ability and skills. This is one reason why John Stockton rarely made it to the All-Star game. No disrespect for his skills, he was a top caliber player during the regular season but his game was not meant for entertaining the fans.
This year, four players from the Detroit Pistons will be playing, Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, Ben Wallace & Rasheed Wallace. Personally, I don’t think Sheed deserves to be on the Eastern team. There are other players more deserving than him. Anyways, my picks for this year’s All-Star game are the following:
WEST:
Guard:Kobe Bryant
Guard:Tracy McGrady
Forward:Elton Brand
Forward:Kevin Garnett
Center:Pau Gasol
EAST:
Guard:Allen Iverson
Guard:Dwayne Wade
Forward:Vince Carter
Forward:Lebron James
Center:Shaquille O’Neal

yeah, all four are reserves but nevertheless, they’re still in the roster and coming from only one team. there are other players in the East who deserve to be on that team more than they do like Michael Redd and Paul Pierce to name a few.

From what I remember, the most players from one team that were all selected to the All-Star Game was three players from the Seattle Supersonics: Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton and Detlef Schrempf. I forgot what year that was. In the NBA site, i read that it’s the first time that coaches selected four players from the same team to be reserves and that it’s the seventh time for a team to have four representatives in the All-Star Game.
