All-Star Replacements

All-Star Replacements

News, Sports

I can’t wait, the 2007 NBA All-Star Weekend is gonna be this coming weekend! I wish I had HDTv so I could watch it in or a DVR receiver so I could record the Sprite Slam Dunk, FootLocker Three-point Shootout and the main event, the All-Star Game.

In my 2007 NBA All-Star post, I listed the Eastern and Western squad starters and reserves. However, there will be some changes in those lineups due to injuries suffered by some of the players.

Last Friday, February 9th, NBA Commissioner David Stern named Josh Howard (Dallas Mavericks) and Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets) as replacements for injured West All-Stars Yao Ming (Houston Rockets) and Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz) for the All-Star Game on Sunday, February 18th in Las Vegas. Both Howard and Anthony will be making their first All-Star appearances.

Then last Tuesday, February 13th, Ray Allen (Seattle SuperSonics) and Mehmet Okur (Utah Jazz) were named as replacements for injured West All-Stars Allen Iverson (Denver Nuggets) and Steve Nash (Phoenix Suns) also for the All-Star Game. It will be Ray Allen’s seventh appearance while Okur will be making his All-Star debut. For the Eastern All-Star squad, Joe Johnson (Atlanta Hawks) will make his first All-Star appearance as he replaces the injured Jason Kidd (New Jersey Nets).

Chris Paul (New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets) will replace Steve Nash in the Playstation Skills Challenge on Saturday Night, February 17th.

    @benj – I'm sure you know that Wade is not the only player who gets the "superstar" treatment. Even Dirk gets it. I watched lots of games where he's the one initiating contact and clearing off the defense with his elbow but the other party gets called for the foul. All NBA superstars get special treatment from the referees and that's what I don't like about the NBA and why I like watching the NCAA.

    Back to Wade, you have to give him credit for being aggressive and attacking the basket. You get more calls your way. I have to disagree with your statement that Wade became a star because of the referees. Remember, his rookie season? He was overlooked because of Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony. He worked his way to the top and his numbers and percentages in free throws, assists, rebounds, steals and blocks have improved through the years. The referees couldn't have done that for him.

    Oh man, this is not gonna end coz we both have our different opinions and preferences. Anyways, I respect your opinion and that Dirk is your MVP. :)

    Wade? His team is pathetic. : | I don't like him at all. I dont like that fact that he gets to the line more than any other player in the league due to the numerous phantom calls that he receives. I don't like the fact that his spin move (a very blatant violation of the traveling rule since he lifts his pivot foot) always escapes the eyes of the referees. The referees have made him the star that he is. *end of rant/ sorry*

    It has always been a two-horse race this season. It's going to be either Dirk or Nash, no ifs and buts about it. It would've been interesting to see Yao Ming in that race though.

    @benj – Yeah, the East was dominated by the West. That’s why I didn’t regret not watching it coz it was not thrilling to watch.

    I’m sorry to say but I’m not a huge fan of Dirk. I recognize his talent and skills but he’s not my type of player. If Wade doesn’t end his season with the surgery, Wade should be the MVP this season. :D

    That was some snoozefest, eh?

    Big Mavericks fan here. I hate the way Dirk refuses to dominate the All Star Game. Come on, THIS is his season!!!

    Dirk =MVP!

    @Toe – What’s your time difference from the US? I was able to watch only parts of the All-Star game coz we had to attend a couple of birthday parties yesterday. But I got to watch the 3-point shootout and slam dunk competition. :D

    Oh, my husband woke up early this morning just to watch the NBA all-stars. And yesterday, he made me watch the dunks and the shoot-outs or whatever those are. :)
