2006 ESPY Awards

The annual ESPY Awards was held yesterday, July 16, 2006. I wasn’t able to watch it live but did catch the replay this morning.

The awards given out included Best Male Athlete which was won by no other than Lance Armstrong. Best Female Athlete was given to golfer Annika Sorenstam, Best Team – Pittsburgh Steelers, Best Coach – Bill Cowher of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Best NBA Player – Dwyane Wade just to mention a few. But the one that caught my attention was the Best Moment award.

ESPY Awards
Best Moment winner – Jason McElwain and his family.

The nominees for the Best Moment award were Dakota Dowd,13yrs old, playing in the LPGA and fulfilling a sick mother’s dream; George Mason defeating UConn and making it to the NCAA Final Four; Jason McElwain scoring 20 pts in 4 minutes; and Kobe Bryant’s 81 point game performance against the Toronto Raptors.

Most people would vote for Kobe Bryant and expect him to win. But that’s if you don’t know who Jason McElwain is. Who is he? Why did he win the award? He won the award not only because of his 20 points in 4 minutes performance but also because of his story. Below is a video of Jason McElwain and the “story”.

J-Mac’s story is very inspiring and I believe that he really deserves to win the award.

@Mike – I’m sorry but I don’t think they sell it to the public. The best thing you can do is look for a video that someone uploaded on YouTube or other video sharing sites. :)

Is there any way to purchase the 2006 ESPYS? I really want to get a video copy of JMac’s story. Is there a way to do that?

@Bobby – Is there a category in the ESPY’s for Best Baseball Catch? I checked the ESPY official site and I didn’t see it there. The closest category would be the Best Play.

i've been looking for several days over the internet to download the 2006 ESPY awards show. They didn't show this in fucked up Singapore, which is another issue. I realise this may not be the best way, but i was hoping you might be able to tell me if there was a way i could watch it. I hope you can help me.

    Thanks,

@Corsarius – Dwyane Wade is definitely the best NBA player last season. Miami wouldn't have won it without him.

@jim – thanks man! it's about time that i got my own domain and a reliable host.

@trench – yes, he really deserves it and you used the right word, J-Mac was amazing!

@cruise – i think we also have something like this in the Phils but not as big and prestigious as the ESPYS.

@gbert – they showed Kobe smiling and applauding after J-Mac's name was called.
