WordCamp Philippines

WordCamp Philippines

If you’re a Pinoy blogger or a WordPress user/fan then most likely you’ve heard or read of this already. But in case you haven’t, I have good news for you. There will be a WordCamp held in the Philippines this coming September 6, 2008. If you don’t know what I’m talking about here’s a little info.

What is WordCamp?

WordCamp is a conference type of event that focuses squarely on everything WordPress. Everyone from casual end users all the way up to core developers show up to these events. These events are usually highlighted by speeches or keynotes by various people. WordCamp is a spin off from the popular BarCamp which was a spin off of FooCamp. - Weblog Tools Collection

WordCamp Philippines will be the first ever WordCamp organized and held in Asia. WordCamp Philippines is being organized by a group of Filipino bloggers based in Mindanao who were also responsible for organizing the successful 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit held last year.

What are the objectives of WordCamp Philippines?

…to encourage more developers to use and deploy WordPress, not only as a blogging engine but also as a full-featured content management system for Web sites. Another is to increase the number of WordPress users and developers in the country. By developers, we mean programmers of WordPress plugins and designers of themes & templates.

6 Random Things Bout Me

Was tagged by Jhay several days ago. This type of meme is kinda hard to do coz you really have to think bout it. Anyways, here are 6 things that I came up with.

1. I love chocolate. I love eating anything chocolate. Anything from cakes to cookies to ice cream. I eat and would eat anything chocolate or has chocolate in it. If I couldn’t find chocolate bars like Snickers or Hershey’s, I would go to the fridge and look for the chocolate chips that’s supposed to be used for baking. If Jughead in Archie Comics has hamburger sauce as his blood type, I would definitely have chocolate as my blood type. Hehe

2. I was named after my 2 grandfathers. Everybody knows and calls me Jaypee or JP but my real name is John Philip. My dad’s father’s name is Juan and that’s the Filipino and Spanish version of John so no need to explain that. Next, my mother’s father’s name is Felix, and my parents decided to change it to Philip which somewhat sounds like Felix.

3. I love shoes. One thing I buy when I have money is a new pair of shoes. I dunno how this fascination with shoes started. Whenever I go to the mall or any shopping center, I would always visit a shoe store. One of my favorite tv shows is MTV Cribs and my favorite portion of the show is when the celebrity shows off his shoe or sneaker collection.

4. I have aquaphobia. It’s not completely the fear of water, but the fear of drowning. I do know how to swim but not that good to be able to survive if I was stranded in the open sea. I am completely terrified of the thought of being stranded out in the deep ocean.

5. I walk faster than the average person. This one is similar to Jhay’s #4 entry. I got this from my dad. When I was a little kid, I remember seeing my dad walk so fast and most of the time he would be walking ahead of me and my mom. So as time passed by, I tried to walk faster and keep up with him. Later on, it became a normal thing for me and so now I walked faster. This helps a lot especially when you’re late for class. Coz when you walk faster, it means that you’re pace is triple the normal walking pace of other people.

6. I love basketball. Not only do I love watching basketball games on TV, but I really love playing the game. I learned how to play football/soccer and tennis before learning to play basketball, but I shifted to basketball coz all of my friends played it. I’ve had so many basketball related injuries. Sprained fingers, wrists, elbows and ankles were the common ones. My parents have been trying to convince me to stop playing it and shift to a non-contact sport like tennis but I really enjoy playing basketball. It’s hard to explain but if you love the game, you know how it feels.

The 6 persons I’m tagging are:

1. Retz
2. Ana
3. Gbert
4. Dre
5. Tin
6. Rose

  1. hey you! Thanks for the TAG!

My mother has aquaphobia too like you. Well, yeah, she has a fear of drowning so whenever we go to a pool or a river or beach or whatever, you can count her out. She refuses to get in the water.

    :-)

I’m also a bit scared of swimming in deep waters, especially if I can’t see the bottom. Just scary, feels like something is going to come up and grab you or swallow you alive or something. But I love to swim, and I prefer swimming in the sea than in the pool.

@ Jim: Glad to have you aboard the Ubuntu side. :D

@jhay - same here. i guess watching those movies like Jaws have something to do with it, right? i also prefer goin to the beach than a swimming pool.
