WordCamp Philippines

WordCamp Philippines

If you’re a Pinoy blogger or a WordPress user/fan then most likely you’ve heard or read of this already. But in case you haven’t, I have good news for you. There will be a WordCamp held in the Philippines this coming September 6, 2008. If you don’t know what I’m talking about here’s a little info.

What is WordCamp?

WordCamp is a conference type of event that focuses squarely on everything WordPress. Everyone from casual end users all the way up to core developers show up to these events. These events are usually highlighted by speeches or keynotes by various people. WordCamp is a spin off from the popular BarCamp which was a spin off of FooCamp. - Weblog Tools Collection

WordCamp Philippines will be the first ever WordCamp organized and held in Asia. WordCamp Philippines is being organized by a group of Filipino bloggers based in Mindanao who were also responsible for organizing the successful 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit held last year.

What are the objectives of WordCamp Philippines?

…to encourage more developers to use and deploy WordPress, not only as a blogging engine but also as a full-featured content management system for Web sites. Another is to increase the number of WordPress users and developers in the country. By developers, we mean programmers of WordPress plugins and designers of themes & templates.

Am I A Blogaholic?

A blogaholic is someone who’s addicted to blogging. Most of the time, this is true for someone who is new to blogging and for some it’s hasn’t changed a bit even after several years of blogging. What are some of the characteristics of a blogaholic? Checking your blog stats every few minutes, checking for new comments and your daily routine includes reading your favorite feeds and checking your Adsense earnings.

What’s with the title of this post? Well, after reading Jonathan Deamer’s list of “50 Signs You’re A Blogaholic”, I couldn’t help but ask myself “Am I A Blogaholic?” I didn’t count how many of the signs listed that I exhibit but after my wife read the article she said that it describes me. Hehe..

Here are some of my favorite signs. These were the ones that made me laugh:

  • You’re considering naming your first-born child Scoble.
  • You’re listening to the travel news and get excited by the phrase “heavy trafficâ€?.
  • Your breakfast of choice is toast, cornflakes and Google reader.
  • You care more about what Technorati says about your authority than what your children do.
  • When asked to feed the dog, you think “RSS or Atom?â€?
  • Your lifetime goal is achieving a Page Rank of 10.
  • People in the street recognise you from your MyBlogLog photo.
  • Under the hobbies section of an online dating profile you just put “Googling myselfâ€?.
  • Your lifetime goal is achieving a Page Rank of 10.

Nope, I’m definitely not a blogaholic… simply because I don’t have an “addiction” type of personality, lol… even with food.

Although lately, I did notice something which might be an indication that I’m turning into a blogaholic, haha. The food I’m eating is getting COLDER AND COLDER, hahaha… because I always have to take pics of them before I eat. My first thought is not eating, it’s always, “Oh, this would be good for my blog!”

They said that the most difficult thing to control is your appetite. If you can’t be addicted with food, I guess you most likely won’t be addicted to blogging too, right? But from what you mentioned, to me those are sure signs that you are indeed becoming a blogaholic! Hehe :D

Haha that’s a good list. I think I’m borderline blogaholic too. Should I feed my hamsters with RSS or Atom? lol

@Joni - I guess Jonathan Deamer is also a blogaholic because it takes one to know one, right? Hehe :D

So what will you use to feed your hamsters? Google Reader? LOL

@ron - Hehe..oo nga eh, ang kulet ng list. Thanks! Bago pa lang, since last week lang. :)

Lol. You must be a blogaholic! Seriously, those made me laugh. Oh, I haven’t received any mail from you (or did I just miss it? Haha). Nevertheless, I’ve already linked you.

@mr nice ash - Finally, someone who admits to being a blogaholic! Hehe

@SexyMom - You’re not the only one. I think most of us do get excited with “heavy traffic” and I’m sure your blog gets a lot of it. :)

@christian - I guess I am. It’s all good, I might be mistaken but I do remember sending you a message. Anyways, thanks for linking me up.

I think I am addicted to blogging. I sometimes bore my dates because I talk about blogs all the time. :(

  15. MyAvatars 0.2   Jaypee UNITED STATES Ubuntu Linux Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3 on Jun 14, 2007 | 5:22 am | Reply

@Ade - If that’s the case, then you should date a lady blogger so you’ll have something in common and she likely won’t mind talking about blogging on your dates. ;)

    Thanks JP,
Yes, I am blog free now.

    I’s not easy.

I am posting my progress two or three times a day on my blog. LOL When I’m not checking my CSS file. LOL

@BigDadGib - You’re welcome! I know it’s not an easy task. I can’t see myself go through that even only for a day. Hehe :D
