Early this year at the 2009 CES in Las Vegas, one of the products that Sony presented to the public was the Sony Walkman X-series which is aimed to compete against the popular Apple iPod Touch. Back then, the specifications were unknown except that it would come in 16GB and 32GB versions, can surf the web and uses an OLED touchscreen, meaning it can display brighter colors and better contrast compared to the iPod Touch’s LED.

Yesterday, Sony Style Hong Kong released the full specifications of the Sony NWZ-X1060 Walkman on their website. Here are some of the basic specs:

Specifications:

  • 3-inch (432 x 240 pixels) OLED touchscreen display
  • 32GB storage
  • NetFront web browser, YouTube support
  • MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV audio / AVC, H.264, MPEG4, WMV video

The Sony NWZ-X1060’s NetFront browser, is the same browser used in the PSP (Portable PlayStation). It also has a built-in digital noise canceling feature that has a noise suppression ratio of 17dB. As of now, the Sony NWZ-X1060 is Windows-only.

Based on the screenshots and the specs, the Sony NWZ-X1060 is very impressive and looks promising. Although personally, I don’t like the marble finish. I hope they release different color versions like black, white or silver. Aside from a bigger screen size, one advantage that the iPod Touch has over this device is the App Store. But if you’re not really into apps, then the Sony NWZ-X1060 is a very good alternative for you.

  1. i would agree on that point jayps… its marble finish is the one like on our office laptop, vostro. simple black smooth finish is more than enough to make it more sexy and elegant. looks like jst any other cel case that could be bought on sidewalks with this finish

  2. @elmot – Specs are very good and overall design is okay. What I don’t like about it is the marble finish they put into it. They should’ve come up with a more elegant finish or just simple metallic black or a silver finish would be nice. :D

  3. i like the specs, but its looks is not that much appealing to me, color-wise not that much…and the design which is like a box of match sticks, a little bit rigid sides…lacks the sleeky, sexiness that turns me on
