Whenever I get a new gadget or device, one of the first things I do is read the user manual. I don’t know but it has become a habit of mine. Anyway, I did the same thing when I got the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i. Aside from reading the basic features and functions, I also check for the requirements and stuff. The Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i is capable of recording Full HD 1080 video and one of the requirements for this feature is a memory card that has an SD speed class of 6 or higher. Using a card with a slower speed class can cause the movie shooting and playback feature to not work properly.
At that time I only had a 2GB Sandisk Ultra II which I got for my Canon Powershot S3 IS. So I decided to get a memory card that had a faster speed class and at the same time have a bigger capacity. I browsed online and found one at Amazon.com, a SanDisk 8GB Extreme HD Video – SDHC Class 6 High-Performance memory card for $36.
Product Photos:
The Sandisk 8GB Extreme SDHC HD Video memory card has a read/write speed of 20MB/sec, which is ideal for point & shoot cameras, DSLRs and video camcorders that have high-definition video recording capabilities. Also, the 8GB memory card can store up to 120 minutes or 2 hours of H.264 high-definition videos at 9Mbps.
The SanDisk 8GB Extreme SDHC HD Video memory card was eligible for Amazon Prime so I got the 2-3 day shipping for free. I received the package on time and in perfect condition. The product was brand new and came in retail packaging, not bulk packaging. As soon as I opened the package, I slipped the memory card on my camera, formatted it, and started shooting pictures with it.
If you’re shopping for a memory card for your digital camera or video camcorder, I strongly recommend Amazon.com. They have some of the best deals online and have very cheap prices especially compared to retail stores like Walmart, Target, or even BestBuy. Just make sure that you pick the right product and read the reviews first. It’s also advisable to get products that are sold by Amazon or sold by a certified store and delivery is fulfilled by Amazon.
@Kimwell – I haven’t really timed it but I’ve observed that the transfer/copy time with this card is way faster than my other memory cards even though the images I transfer are much larger (I’ve set the image quality to maximum – Large/Fine) and that includes HD videos.
Sir Jayps, May I ask about this cards actual performance? such as copying time to the computer etc etc..
@Rygel – No I haven’t tried that. The minimum requirement of my DSLR camera was a class 6 so I didn’t bother buying a higher class card.
there’s also this sandisk extreme III class 10… have you tried it?
@Kimwell – Actually its $36, not $31 but its still a whole lot cheaper than other retail stores. Sorry but I don’t have any idea how much it costs there in the Philippines. If you want, I can get it for you and I’ll just ship it to you or if you can wait, I can send it thru my parents who’ll be visiting us next month and will be back in the Philippines in July. Let me know.
@Lakhyajyoti – I buy most of the stuff I need from Amazon. Thanks, glad you liked the review. :)
I always buy my gadgets from Amazon.BWN it was a nice review.
Wow.$31 only? SanDisk cards are really expensive over here and they are quite rare as compared to other brands. I have been looking for a reliable SDHC for my Nikon D90 and your post pointed me to it. I wonder how much is the price locally?
