Unwired reports that Motorola will be cancelling the RAZR/Ruby line of phones. Reports also say that they’ll be ditching the Symbian UIQ for the Android. So I guess it’s both good news and bad news, right?

Here in the US, people change their computers every 3 years on average. With all the thousands of computers being disposed do you ever wonder where do all those used computers go?

Black Friday Tragedy: Wal-Mart employee dies from stampede - A Long Island Wal-Mart employee died when people came rushing in for Black Friday sale.

According to the WordPress Codex, WordPress 2.7 wil be released sometime in November and since its already near the end of the month, the release of WordPress 2.7 aka Crazy Horse is just around the corner. Based on the fact that Matt Mullenweg likes to make big announcements during WordPress events, some are speculating that WordPress 2.7 will be released this weekend during WordCamp Australia.

I know some of you already have had a first hand experience with WordPress 2.7 and installed the beta versions, but for those of you who haven’t tried or seen it, here are a few screenshots of the upcoming version.

Screenshots:

Now that you’ve seen how the upcoming version of WordPress looks like, the question is: Are you ready for WordPress 2.7? I asked you guys a similar question early this year prior to the release of WordPress 2.5. Crazy Horse will not only have new icons and new user interface design, but will also come with a new set of features like keyboard shortcuts, threaded comments, one-click plugin installs and the core update feature (option of downloading, installing, and upgrading to the latest WordPress version from WP Dashboard). Since this version involves a lot changes, you’ll have to make sure that you know everything about it and be ready for the upgrade.

Below is a list of resources that you might wanna check out and read to get yourself ready for WordPress 2.7.

WordPress Codex - WordPress 2.7 Feature List

Jacob Santos - 10 WordPress Features You’ll Never Care About

Technosailor - 10 Things You Need to Know About WordPress 2.7

Taragana - 16 Must-Know Features in WordPress 2.7

OP111 - Ten New Features in WordPress 2.7

Ottodestruct - WordPress 2.7 Comments Enhancements

The Core Update Feature is not compatible or doesn’t work with all web hosting services so you might wanna check if your current web host supports this feature. Core Update Host Compatibility List. Aside from that, you would also probably like to check if your current plugins and themes are compatible with WordPress 2.7, so check out the Plugin Compatibility and Theme Compatibility lists.

I know that upgrading to the latest version of WordPress is strongly advised, however in this case you might want to make sure that your web host, themes and plugins are all compatible before you upgrade your WordPress installation. This will not only save you time but also save you any problems and headaches.

Based on the new features and compatibility issues, are you ready for WordPress 2.7?

I got the idea to create this tutorial when my cousin asked me to help him restore the drive icons on his laptop. He explained to me that he recently installed a tweaking program that changed the default driver icons and after uninstalling the program, the default drive icons went missing and he couldn’t restore it. Below is a screenshot that he sent me.

As you can see from the screenshot above, the default icons for Drive C and D are both missing.

This issue usually happens when you install a third-party tweaking program to change the original drive icons or this could also be caused by a virus or other forms of malware. For the regular user, this could be a daunting task but don’t worry because this tutorial will show you how to restore the default drive icons in a few short steps.

DISCLAIMER:
This process involves editing the system registry, so make sure you read and follow instructions. Editing and deleting the wrong registry key could mess up your computer. Proceed at your own risk.

Open regedit (click on Windows logo and type “regedit” on the Search bar and hit ENTER)

Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer

(Click on the small arrow on the left side to expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and scroll down to SOFTWARE and click on the small arrow to expand it. Repeat same procedure until you get to explorer)

In explorer, look for a key named “DriveIcons“, right click on it and click on Delete. (my screenshot doesn’t have that key because my default icons are not missing)

Log off or restart your computer.

That should do it! If you followed instructions correctly, the default drive icons should be restored after you log back to your computer.

Anyone else experience this problem on your Windows Vista-powered computer? What did you do to fix it? In case you know of a different way of solving this issue, please share it with us.

If you found this tutorial useful and would like to share it with others, please don’t forget to bookmark it. Thank you!

WordPress just released version 2.6.5 a few hours ago to fix one security problem and three bugs. It is recommended that everyone upgrade to this release.

Here’s a little bit of information regarding the security issue and the three bugs that version 2.6.5 fixes:

The security issue is an XSS exploit discovered by Jeremias Reith that fortunately only affects IP-based virtual servers running on Apache 2.x…

2.6.5 contains three other small fixes in addition to the XSS fix. The first prevents accidentally saving post meta information to a revision. The second prevents XML-RPC from fetching incorrect post types. The third adds some user ID sanitization during bulk delete requests.

Btw, if you’ve noticed the WordPress development team skipped from 2.6.3 to 2.6.5. That is not an error and is done purposely to avoid confusion with the fake 2.6.4 version that the fake WordPress site tried to distribute early this month.

If you’re not interested in doing a full upgrade but still make your WordPress installation secure, all you need to do is download version 2.6.5, copy wp-includes/feed.php and wp-includes/version.php and upload (overwrite existing files) them to your wp-includes folder.

I’ve already upgraded mine and I advise that you do the same thing. It only takes a few minutes to do plus you’ll have peace of mind that your WordPress blog is more secure. Make sure you only download from the real WordPress site. Better safe than sorry!

UPDATE: Thanks to Aja for pointing out that this should be roundup #25. I didn’t see that I already published #24 because I filed it in the wrong category.

Yes folks, the Weekend Roundup is back! It’s been eight months since I last published the last roundup. I never intended to stop this weekly feature but the busy schedule, problems with my old laptop and a little bit of laziness on my part kept me from posting another Weekend Roundup. Well, I’m trying to revive it again and hopefully I can continue this every week. I’d also like to know from you, my regular readers whether I should continue this weekly feature or not.

Without further ado, here’s this week’s roundup of news and interesting stuff from around the web and blogosphere.

Bruce Lee and martial arts fanatics all over the world drooled (including myself) when Nokia recently released the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition in Hong Kong.

As you can see from the photo above, the special limited edition handset features Bruce Lee’s face and signature on the back case. The limited edition set contains rare photos of the martial arts legend slash actor, other accessories like a set of miniature nunchucks and of course, the Bruce Lee doll shown in the first photo. If you ask me, the best part about the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition is the included Bruce Lee doll. I’d love to get myself one of those! When I first saw it, I was like OMG OMG OMG…Hehe.

Below are a couple of promotional videos made especially for the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition:

Apparently, Bruce Lee doesn’t only have skills in martial arts but also in pingpong. I’d love to see him play against Forrest Gump or those guys from the Matrix Style Pingpong video.

You can purchase the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition from Nokia China’s website and will cost you about $1,200+. Btw, you’ll have to know to Chinese to be able to do your purchase since the website is in Chinese. It would be a good idea for Nokia to make this special edition phone a global release and not only exclusive in Hong Kong.

If you have time you might also wanna visit the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition Official Website. It’s a flash-based site and takes quite a while to load even with a fast Internet connection.

What do you think of the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee Edition? If you can afford it, would you buy one? You think Nokia should also release a Chuck Norris Edition here in the US?

Here’s a list of free optical disc authoring software or more commonly known as cd/dvd burning software. These programs are free to download and are made for computers running Windows.

Active@ ISO Burner
Active@ ISO Burner is a freeware application that will allow you to burn an ISO image file to CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-RW, DVD-RW, DL DVD+RW, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
Homepage

Active@ Data CD/DVD Burner
Active@ Data CD/DVD Burner is software used to burn files and folders onto CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-RW, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Automation and Unicode (non-English names) are fully supported.
Homepage

AmoK CD/DVD Burning
AmoK CD/DVD Burning is for all those people who think burning programs such as Nero or WinOnCD are too overloaded with functionality that no one needs. AmoK CD/DVD Burning does not have a media center, wave editor, cover designer and cannot create videos. AmoK CD/DVD Burning burns CDs and DVDs and offers all options you need – nor more and not less.
Homepage

AmoK DVD Shrinker
AmoK DVD Shrinker shrinks DVDs up to one fifth of the original size without any noticeable quality reduction. Due to the smaller file size the copy can be burned on a “normal” 2.5 or 4.7 DVD-R. The DVD’s menus, subtitles, audio tracks etc all stay preserved. Though, if you want only the original film can be be copied/ripped.
Homepage

Ashampoo Burning Studio Free
Ashampoo Burning Studio is an optical disc authoring program for Microsoft Windows, developed by Ashampoo. It is one of the most used alternatives to Nero Burning ROM on Windows, but still not as popular as the latter. Its main advantages are that it is simple, lightweight, and very easy to use. However, that is also one of its weaknesses: it does not contain many extras that power-users might find useful. Ashampoo Burning Studio is capable of creating compilations of CDs, Optical Disc Images, DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs. It also allows the creation of DVD movies from video files.
Download

Burn4Free
Burn4Free CD and DVD is a burning solution that’s compatible with more than 3,000 DVD and CD burners. Burn data and audio from different file types (WAV, WMA, MP3, OGG, FLAC, WavPack, and CDA). Burn and save ISO files, open and save your project to disk, verify content, print compilations, copy DVDs, and import your audio compilation from M3U and ASX playlists. The drives supported include dual-layer DVD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM (SCSI, IDE, EIDE, and USB 1.0 and 2.0).
Homepage

Burnatonce
Burnatonce can master data and audio discs, read/write image files, and copy on-the-fly. It’s drag-and-drop interface has multi-language support and is fully compatible with XP themes. Multisession and bootable disc mastering is supported as well as long filename support using Joliet, Long Joliet, and Rockridge. Extra long filename support is provided with the ISO9660:1999 and UDF filesystems. Audio discs can be compiled from WAV, MP3, MP2, OGG, and FLAC files as standard while support for other audio formats can be added optionally. CD-Text can be written from the built-in editor, imported from freedb, read from media tags, or extracted from filenames. Pauses between tracks can also be set as silence, pregap, or postgap of varying lengths.
Homepage

BurnAware Free
BurnAware Free is a free CD, DVD, Blu-ray Disc burning software. It is ideal for users with basic disc burning needs as backup, creating data, audio, MP3 music, DVD-Video discs and burning disc images. Free, easy to set up, it enables you to save your files to disc quickly and provides clean, flexible interface to help you complete your burning tasks much faster.
Homepage

CDBurnerXP
CDBurnerXP is a free application to burn CDs and DVDs, including Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs. It also includes the feature to burn and create ISOs, as well as a multilanguage interface. Everyone, even companies, can use it for free. It does not include adware or similar malicious components.
