WordCamp Philippines

WordCamp Philippines

If you’re a Pinoy blogger or a WordPress user/fan then most likely you’ve heard or read of this already. But in case you haven’t, I have good news for you. There will be a WordCamp held in the Philippines this coming September 6, 2008. If you don’t know what I’m talking about here’s a little info.

What is WordCamp?

WordCamp is a conference type of event that focuses squarely on everything WordPress. Everyone from casual end users all the way up to core developers show up to these events. These events are usually highlighted by speeches or keynotes by various people. WordCamp is a spin off from the popular BarCamp which was a spin off of FooCamp. - Weblog Tools Collection

WordCamp Philippines will be the first ever WordCamp organized and held in Asia. WordCamp Philippines is being organized by a group of Filipino bloggers based in Mindanao who were also responsible for organizing the successful 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit held last year.

What are the objectives of WordCamp Philippines?

…to encourage more developers to use and deploy WordPress, not only as a blogging engine but also as a full-featured content management system for Web sites. Another is to increase the number of WordPress users and developers in the country. By developers, we mean programmers of WordPress plugins and designers of themes & templates.

Bidvertiser WordPress Plugin and FeedBurner Solution

Earlier this month Bidvertiser added RSS advertising into their lineup of services and gave Bidvertiser publishers and advertisers another monetizing option. With the success of this new ad avenue, Bidvertiser announced today that they have added a WordPress plugin and FeedBurner solution that will help bloggers keep their current feed address if they choose to run Bidvertiser ads on their feeds.

  • WordPress Plugin to allow you to seamlessly embed the BidVertiser Ads in your feeds.
  • Solution for FeedBurner that allows you to embed the BidVertiser Ads in your current FeedBurner address
  • Solution for Blogger that allows you to embed the BidVertiser Ads in the footer of each of your post feeds.

Worried that your FeedBurner subscriber count would be affected? Don’t be because solution #2 will keep your subscriber count in tact. If you have registered your feed and would like to add any one of these features, you can access them via the Bidvertiser control panel under the Get Feed Widget button.

Right now, I prefer not to use RSS advertising here on JaypeeOnline because I want my subscribers to have clean access to my posts with no distractions or advertisements that could bother them. RSS advertising is another option for bloggers who look to monetize their blogs and maximize all opportunities. I’m sure many bloggers will benefit from this service.

For the readers, are you distracted or bothered by ads on RSS feeds? For bloggers, would you consider using RSS advertising? Why or why not?

I don’t have a lot of feed subscribers so I think rss advertising is not the best option for me… maybe when my subscribers reach 500, which is nearly impossible. lol.

@Joni - Yeah, it works better if you have many feed subscribers. 500 subscribers is not impossible for you, trust me! ;)

@jhay - Who wouldn’t? I’d probably think about doing it too if I had like 1,000 subscribers. :D

You dont tend to get a lot of feed subscribers unless you made it somewhat big already.

@Manalo - That’s true. You’d get a lot of subscribers if you’re an already established blogger or somebody famous. :)
