Help Victims of Typhoon Ondoy

Typhoon Ondoy - Manila, Philippines

UPDATE: Added new photos

Time to take a break from the regular programming here in JaypeeOnline to do some public service and help the victims of typhoon Ondoy in the Philippines.

Last week, I heard about typhoon “Ondoy” hitting the Philippines on the news and saw several photos posted and forwarded by people on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites. Because I was so busy this past weekend, I wasn’t able to follow the developments of the flood and how badly affected the Philippines was.

Today, I was able to browse through the news articles, blog posts and updates and finally got to realize how much damage this typhoon has done. From what I’ve learned, this is the worst typhoon ever recorded in the Philippines since 1967, with a month’s worth of rainfall pouring down in only 6 hours. I’m sharing some of the photos and videos posted by other Pinoy bloggers.

We Filipinos are known for “bayanihan” – a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective. This is one of those times that we really need to put “bayanihan” into practice. We need to put aside all our differences and work together to help the victims of Ondoy. Any type of help you can give – cash, food, clothes, etc. will help ease the burden of the poor victims of these recent calamity. I also pray for the countless families who were displaced and affected by Ondoy and hope that they’d get the help that they need and be able to recover as soon as possible. God bless the Philippines!

The pictures featured in this blog is a heart touching to every concerned fellow citizens for a humanitarian heart to Lend a Hand to the innocent victims affected by this month’s floods and erosions triggered by Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng, likewise a serious call and reminder for everyone to implement and practice proper Solid Waste Management, join projects in preserving forests through TREE PLANTING and POLICE/REPORT scropulous illegal loggers and Realty Developers denuding mountain for their own business to develop luxurious houses and golf courses for the ELITES.
A cry to Gov’t agencies incharge on environmental concerns to strictly implement rules and policies conscientously and evenly to all concerned.

  6. @Pat – Hi! Sorry for the late response. Its good to know that fellow Filipinos who are overseas are doing their part in helping our countrymen in need. Regarding the photos, they are not mine and I’ve only collected them from various sources which I have stated at the bottom of the post.

Thanks and wish you all the best! :)

  7. Hi! my name is pat and I’m a true-blooded Filipina studying in a unversity in the US. I’m trying to create a video/photo slideshow to inspire my fellow students here to donate what they can to the victims of this horrible typhoon. Do you think I could use your photos? I’d be more than willing to cite you in the slideshow and give you full credit if these photos are yours.

More power to you and God Bless the Philippines.

  8. That’s terrible. The images are more than words, I hope bloggers around the world will shout about it thru different forum and will provide help from different means.

  9. @marvin – I’m really sorry I couldn’t provide the list that you’re requesting. The only thing I can suggest is to ask the agencies involved in the relief operations like Red Cross or the local government offices. I hope and pray that your friend and his family are safe.

  10. I have a friend who lives in provident village. Please help us on where to get the list of survivors or the victims coz his wife’s phone and friends phone cannot be reached since sunday.

  11. @odds – Same here. I was really sad when I saw these photos and videos. I admire what you, your company and officemates have done to help the typhoon victims. I hope more people will emulate these efforts. Yes, God bless the Philippines!

  12. I am really moved by what happened to our country. As for our company, most of the employees (including me) pledged our quarter’s rice allowance to the typhoon victims (which includes our co-workers too). God Bless the Philippines.

  13. @Pinoy – Great job by the photographers. They really capture the moment and tell the story. Just sharing these photos I got from different sources but anyways, thanks for the compliments! :)

  14. @jan – I would’ve blogged about it earlier but because of the busy weekend, I was only able to blog about it a few days after.

Thanks! Just wanted to do my part in increasing awareness to the severity of the devastation caused by Ondoy in the Philippines. Hopefully my post was able to inspire people to help, donate or even just help spreading awareness like what I did.
