Expected Downtime Today – November 20

downtime

Just want to give all JaypeeOnline readers and visitors a heads up that there will be an expected downtime later today, November 20 between 11:55 PM and 7:00 AM US Eastern Time. This is part of a scheduled server maintenance procedure and will take a few hours.

My hosting provider – ServInt informed me about the scheduled downtime via email last night.

On Wednesday, November 20th, 2013 between 11:55 PM EDT and 7:00 AM EDT, we will be performing maintenance on the server hosting vps.jaypeeonline.net. A reboot of the server will be required.

We will be bringing the server offline at the same time and performing a file system check. Given the size of the RAID array of the host node this could take up to 3-4 hours.

The MST will be actively monitoring your host machine for the duration of the maintenance.

The notice said that the downtime could take between 3-4 hours but I’m hoping that it wouldn’t take that long. However, issues can come up during these procedures so I’m expecting the worse. I know this because it has happened before during a routine maintenance where the estimated downtime of 15-30 minutes lasted for more than 10 hours. It was an accident and my hosting provider dealt with it promptly and professionally and even gave me a free month of hosting. I hope that it doesn’t happen again.

So please accept my apologies in advance for any inconvenience caused by this downtime. This schedule maintenance is done to make sure that the server runs smoothly and prevent any issues in the future so you folks would have a pleasant experience everytime you visit JaypeeOnline.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Have a great day!
