Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer death among women and the fifth most common cause of cancer death worldwide. Tens of thousands of women die of breast cancer each year. I lost my grandmother to breast cancer last year.
Each year, my friend Brian Gardner – a popular web designer especially in the WordPress community laces up his shoes to participate in the Chicago Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk, an annual event that helps promote awareness, raise funds and most importantly benefit women and help to save lives.
Why does he do it?
I don’t walk to get recognition. I don’t walk because I want people to think of me a hero. I walk so that a little girl can grow up and spend time with her mother. I walk so that a mother can watch her daughter walk down the aisle at her wedding. I walk so that I don’t have to console another friend while a part of her life was taken too soon. I walk because I am physically able to, while others are not. I walk because I have been given so much, and I want to give back as much as I can. I walk, because I cannot walk away…
So why am I posting about this? Because I want to be involved and I want to help not only Brian but also the fight against breast cancer. Brian is required to raise a minimum of $2,200 to participate in the event. So far, he’s already raised $800+ and more than halfway to go.You might ask what the money is for. Funds raised during this event go to breast cancer research, education, and community outreach. With my help and your help, Brian will be able to participate in this event and we can join him in the fight against breast cancer. Btw, this is not a fun walk. Participants will have to walk an average of 20 miles a day for 3 days.
Just so you know, I’ve donated a small amount to Brian which I hope would be able to help him reach his goal. Thank you Brian, for giving me the opportunity not only to help you but also the fight against breast cancer!
